Here's some shots of me being reunited with my k5!

Build thread and details to come. Note that the driver decided he wanted to test the flex by missing the ramp completely :haha::haha:

You look very happy, like a kid on Christmas morning. Congrats on being reunited.

Sorry I had to. :haha: I couldn't stop laughing.

Regarding the top- It's got a softtop and a bikini top, but the soft top has seen better days :(

Looks good. Better keep it out of that crappy scHumboldt county weather. Every vehicle I owned while I lived there had rust on it somewhere.:D Lemme know when you're ready to hit some trails.

lucky sob with your pre smog blazer......

Nice lookin rig man...

Ps: the white walls gotta go though.:D

I would be rockin' the whitewall for a spare though!! :haha:

Just changed the spark plugs, replaced some battery cables, got a new battery and flushed the coolant. Ordering some header gaskets this week, and tuning the carb, then it's on to suspension!

I think i'm going to ditch the 8-leaf springs in the rear for some flexier ones with Kurt's shackle flip and some zero rates f/r. Going to pick up some 36.5's on Wednesday up in Grant's Pass. Can't wait to get this thing ready!

Well luck has run my way... Grant's Pass is about 3 hours from me (not too far) so about 7 hours to go pick the seats up and come back (with gas+piss stops). The guy calls me today and says his buddy's coming down to Arcata tomorrow and he's throwin them in his truck!

Free delivery+Smokin deal on some nearly new buckshots+black steelies= :D

Side note- They have those snow stud thingys on them, anyone ever taken those out? I was just going to go at them with a pair of dykes, but if there's an easier approach please tell...

Well I went ahead and tried to pull one out... they're in there pretty good. Anyhow, in my 10 minutes of going at it, I started thinking maybe I don't really need to pull these out. There is only one row per tire, and their only on every other lug. Will it damage the tires if I leave this in and drive on the street for a while? This isn't a DD by any means but it is Dual Purpose and has to get me to the trail. They'll even add a little traction once i'm on the trail too :D

Please post up if this is a bad idea, or will damage the tires themselves.

Congrats. I am curious about the studs too. My guess is just run them. The studs themselves will wear faster on the street, but who cares. Don't think they would hurt the tires, but htat is just my stab at it.

Not sure about Cali but in a lot of states studs can only be run during certain months of the year.

High speed / high temp those studs will act as conductors to take the heat from the road and deliver it into the lugs of the tire so if you are running highway speeds it could start to break down the tire.

I have personally seen running studs at highway speed for extended periods of time combined with not wearing seatbelts lead to sudden tire failure and in this case a rollover that caused loss of life.

So no I wouldn't run them.

Tire shop that installs them could tell u a good way of removing them.

like said before, check laws on running studded tires on the road. here, they're only allowed for certain months. your truck will get noticed by law enforcement and you won't want more things illegal than have to be. i never get ticketed for what's illegal on my truck, just warnings because i'm nice and gracious when the officers pull me over.

i was pulled over 8 times or so in about a year and never got a ticket. ;)

I'm not real sure how they were installed, but they are in there pretty darn good. There just isn't much to grab hold of. They are like little nipples protruding from the tire, I could only get ahold of it with a pair of needle noses. I didn't try any kind of lubrication, but maybe i'll see what a little soap and water will do. The tire shop want like $100 to pull them out and I don't see that being worth $100 to me. I think i'll give it another go and if they aren't budging they're staying :D

From what I've read these buckshots are a slow wearing, HD tire for heavy trucks so hopefully they can take it, and maybe some will just fall out. I was just worried about the studs being pushed farther and farther toward popping the tire.

Did someone really need to write an ehow article? All that article says is: Grab with dykes. Pull.
