How do I unsubscribe?!?!?!?!?!

Martin

Haha, relax Marty. The tranny isn't being junked or anything. May go in something else someday. Like a tow rig.

It had some real ghetto booty fab linkages, and wouldn't be any fun in the sand.

Yes I'm not going to get rid of the sm465. I'd love to get a crew cab for a tow rig eventually and I would plan on putting it in one of those. This truck is mainly going to be played with in the sand and just from experience I prefer an automatic playing in the sand and in the mud. So sorry for offending those sm465 lovers. But I do have intentions of using in something at a later date.

Ha, he would never speak to me again if he found out I dump every single one of them in the dumpster I have ever came across, Im probably up to 12 or so now :haha:

That being said, your going to want to beef/mega cool that 700, with tires that big its going to get hot and take some abuse for sure. We have a few around here that are huge, and trannys are a problem with them. They all switched to 4L80Es or TH400s. It is cool though, my cousin has an 02 Sub with 64in somethins on it, and his buddies have a few that are bigger than that with all tubeframes and such. Sorta built like a monster truck but with leafs instead of coils. Very cool, until they get stuck then you need an M1 Abrams or a Chinook heli to extract them trucks.

I dont see how the tranny would know if its turning 30" or 44" tires if the axles are geared correctly.

It in itself has no idea, but the force required to move 44in tires is alot more because of the obvious mass of the tire, and the added weight of the upgrades required to run 44in tall tires. Axles, brakes, lift springs, ect all adds up to alot more weight than your average 1/2ton stuff.

Then on top of all that, on a truck with 44s, your going to be heading into stuff where 30s have no business, ie deep mud/water/ect. Requiring spinning the tires, heating up the tranny and putting load on it.

Then on top of all that, you, with your tranny dealings you have, are aware that the 700 in stock form isnt up to the task of 33s and a decent motor hardly. I am a fan of the 700, used one for a long time in several trucks, but they just need a little help to handle all that.

Something else just crossed my mind, and can save you a bit of cash down the road, as I have taken notice of your fab skills. The first truck we built with tractor tires, pretty similar to what you guys are doing, and we had major frame problems. We ended up having to build all new crossmembers and box the frame as it was twisting so bad it was loosening the rivets all over on the crossmembers and basically ruining the doors and such from body twist. And we HAD to run a track bar, as we custom ghetto fabbed crossover on ours, and we were to the point of destroying upper shackle mount bushings and bending shackles from the force of turning them, and that gets real old real fast. Now we finally upgraded to hydro assist, but for awhile it was standard. Deff reinforce the frame as much as you can, since weight on something like your doing isnt a huge deal. The biggest one I hang out with uses a old Peterbuilt tractor trailer frame, 5tons, and it tips the scales at a hair under 11,000lbs. And its a serious beast, not exactly practical, but it does get the job done. :screwy: :haha:

I plan on building that 700. I will be dropping it off to our tranny guy probally next week so it def will not be stock. As far as steering I plan on doing hydro assist cross over to be able to turn those tires. As far as boxing in the frame I was already considering it. My as well do it now and not later.

To clear everything up I guess I'll let everyone know all the plans

12" springs up front. Shackle flip and 8" springs in rear
Cross over steering with hydro assist
700 r4 with 241 drivers side drop
Ford high pinion front axle d60 kingpins( if I can find one)
14bff for rear (not sure on gear choice yet)
46" military take off tires
Box in frame

I think I'm missing a few things but that's the jist of what I intend on doing

Out of curiousness, whats your motor plans? Keeping the one that ya got now?

Well for now just gonna leave the 350 In it. It runs good and I want to get the lift ad everything down before I do a motor for this thing. But I have three options I'm considering

Option 1: BIG BLOCK:thumb:

Option 2: 4bt or 6bt cummins???

Option 3: deulings 408 sbc

At the moment I'd like to do a 454. But if I found a good deal I'd love to put a cummins in this thing but that might be more work than I really want to get into for this truck. So :dunno:

Big block... Then if you get it and change your mind, I can have it! :thumb:

Well it's been quite a while since I've made a post or even gotten any work done on the truck. Been busy with work and other things like rebuilding my dirt bike and such......

But last night deuling and I finally pulled the Chevy in the garage for the first time in a little over a month. Had to get all this derrrrn white stuff off it first:doah:

First off finally took care of the ghetto 4" pipe lift by replacing it with all new body mounts and a 3" body lift. The body is alot more secure now:thumb:

Who wants a free body lift? Anyone?:haha:

After that was taken care of it was BUMPER BUILDING TIME!

This is what me and deuling came up with.
The main bar and the stinger.

And here is how it sits now. The bumper is not done yet have some more big ideas for the bottom involving some plate and some dimple dies perhaps :dunno:
