The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
I couldn’t let it be.

Y’all either didn’t notice or you’re really gracious.

The first attempt at paint was less than satisfactory as the sunlight made it obvious that the paint was uneven and streaky. I think it was partially due to using a gun too small for the task. So I went to work giving it all a light sanding with 1,000 grit. Shot it again today giving it 3 more coats on top of the first 3. It’ll be a few days before it sees sunlight due to inclement weather, but I think this time full coverage was achieved. I’m contemplating a wet sand and buff once the paint has fully cured. We will see.

I modified the filters on this first photo so we could see just how uneven the paint was.

I half enjoyed the dulled look of the sanded fresh paint …

But I prefer the shine.

I know, I need to fix the gaps on those cargo doors.

I have old eyes and a small phone. Looks good to me!!

Cleaned up and put together the rear air deflector. Is gonna look good up there. But I am running into a problem: the 1/4-20 rivnuts are not wide enough to fill or even grip the 1/2” holes in the roof. I can’t remember how this was done before. Anyone have any ideas?

I almost want to say it wasn’t rivenuts but some kind of plastic insert that was in there before.

Bigger rivnut?

That is exactly what I did. I was hoping to use the original hardware, but that was clearly not going to happen. 3/8 rivnuts for the win.

I used a hodge podge of hardware to bolt it down, try still get replaced with new stuff, but it’s on.

As far as the rivnuts, they used
a rubber type rivnut.
Allowed for vibration.
The rubber in my old 86 chafed/wore away over the years. Started leaking into the cabin. Finally got rid of it due to the Mrs.'s constant...encouragement. lol

Had to look them up. Rubber well nuts.

Also, they used oval head screws
