The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
Pedestal and factory-style bushing/mount installed. The purpose of this pedestal is to get the weight of the tcase supported as close to under the tcase as possible, while also providing an additional tie-in point for the trans-tcase. It’s probably overkill. But that’s okay.

I should be able to get started on the crossmember later this week.

Andy

Do you check it for being flat before you use it? I have a friend who has one. His would warp a little every time he used it. Finally shimmed and bolted it down.

Sometimes mixing and matching truck parts requires careful attention to detail to ensure you’re installing the right parts.

Sometimes that lesson is learned the hard way.

I learned pretty quickly after getting my drivetrain installed that I had ordered the wrong clutch as the throw out bearing would not make contact with the pressure plate before the clutch fork bottomed out against the back of the bell housing. I reached out to @Larry and thanks to his wealth of NV4500 knowledge, I discovered the late model clutch kit I had installed was incompatible with my early model 4500 and Advanced Adapters bell housing.

No big deal. I got the correct early model clutch kit on order and with the help of a couple of friends willing to risk life and limb, we were able to pull the Magnum 205 and NV4500 out, swap the clutch, and reinstall the transmission and transfer case in just 3 Florida summer hours. Throw out bearing makes contact now.

With that behind me, I can focus on building the new transmission crossmember. After some more thought, I don’t think it’s necessary to have a dual mount/ cantilever setup, but I will be swapping back to the factory style OEM mount. Drivetrain angle is set at 4-5*.

On the day of the clutch swap, this little fella showed up at my house. I saw him through the window sitting in front of our blue suburban.

Thinking he would bolt as soon as I stepped outside (like all strays do), I walked out to the porch. Much to my surprise, he instead immediately came straight to me.

He is skinny and seemed hungry and thirsty so I gave him some food and water.

And he hasn’t left since. He’ll roam the area on occasion, but he seems to have decided we are his new home. He is even more affectionate than the two cats we already have and enjoys relaxing in the shade of the suburbans.

So much for not being a cat dad.

Andy
Shop cat! Awesome!

Been super busy the last couple weeks, but tryna do a little here and there everyday.

Started with getting another canopy because I’m done working in the heat and rain. I’ll add a few extras in time to try to make it look nicer from the road, but it’ll be lipstick on a pig. I opted out of an HOA for a reason.

Finally picked up a HF welding table. Put casters on it this morning. Not pictured is the wooden base I built for my tube bender. Casters on that also.

Diesel ended up moving in. Agree he’s def an older cat. But he’s pretty chill and a welcome addition to the family.

Hope to be getting to building the new transmission crossmember this weekend.

Andy
He's got the sad eye routine down pat! Gets me every time.

Painted the crossmember and got it installed.

I may, or may not, work up a rev2 down the road. Time will tell. I need some time-distance from this one before I put any thought-effort into another one.

In the meantime, I needed something easy and attainable for a morale booster, so I got my Hydroboost clutch pedals installed, along with a workout CMC (for mock up), as well as, brake booster and BMC, and diesel go-pedal (which actually doesn’t appear any different from the gas version).

The BluBurb is getting a new transmission next (along with something special, stay tuned for updates in that thread), then I’ll turn my attention to the fuel tank for the RedBurb, followed by the fuel system. Probably finish up the clutch system too, and get my multiple tcase shifters installed along with a trans tunnel cover.

Many pedals + many shifters = very difficult to steal.

Is your 6.5 mechanical injection?
I thought you had the newer engine with electronics and drive by wire.
