The restoration/modification of Daisy.

Where do you suggest an unemployed person look for air intake tubing / filter options on the somewhat cheap?
What kind of mpg's are you seeing? I have myself half convinced the 90 isn't a rock hopper and that a down grade to 4.10's...33's and a 4 inch lift might be good enough to get some mpg's while allowing me to make the 90 into a chalet and fit it in the garage...just wierd idea's....lol.

Both have great prices and products.

Sometimes it's probably good to reflect on how far you've come to keep everything in perspective. What all do you have left to do?
I need to finish up the winch, jerry can mounts for the rear bumper, roof rack and more sound deadening. Oh and eventually, paint.

I've got some leftover intake stuff I can send you, siliconeintakes.com has good stuff too.

I'm sticking with 4.88s, I'm stepping up to 37s next though. 4.88s & 35s is a little low on the highway, 37s would drop my highway RPMs a couple hundred. I haven't really tracked mileage since regearing. Next time I take it out of town I'll check it for you. I was getting 12/15mpg with 4.10s. I'd guess 10/13 ish now.

What tires you think you might go with when you do go 37's?

BFG KO2s. I've found that 95% of what I've done can be done with an all terrain tire. I've only been in one situation where mud was unavoidable. A/Ts will ride batter on the highway too.

This is how it starts...

You probably made the same claim once huh?

That sounds like a good plan. I like those KO2's also.

A couple of times, but I know that 38s are my upper limit. Good call on the ATs. They always worked very well for me, though I have enjoyed greater tread life with these MTRs than I ever did with any of the BFGs.

I still have no clue what I'm getting for the 77. I REALLY like a couple of the dick cepek tires and some other random ones I forget now. And I don't know why but I have never liked the bfg all terains. They just bug me. Lucky for me I'm only doing roughly 33s so choices are cheap and plentiful. 285 75 16.

These are a few that I'm considering. There are more but these all seem along that new "rugged terrain" thing that the duratracs once held by themselves.

37's are and idea. If a used set is found they are way cheaper than a re-gear event. I'll have to think on that.
Thank you for tracking your mileage. The jimmy rarely goes any where. Walmart for grub or once a week to pick up my kids.
Unemployment sucks. What do you have left for the intake piping? And thank you for the links. Guess i need to pull my shorty short apart and see what size the inlet to neck down size is and start with a red elbow and work my way out from there.
A/T's are not bad for around town and easy peasy exploring. They have a lower rolling resistance than a mud terrain and hence the better mpg's.

I'm against all terrains.

That is all.

No useful information here

i always have been as well, here lately I've gotten really annoyed by the noise level of the suburban on the highway. i need to remove the platform and finish lining the floor then get some new carpet padding to cut the volume down more. and as mentioned, a vast majority of what I've done with the suburban so far could be done with A/Ts.

i wasn't a fan of them till the KO2 came out, like 3 weeks after i bought my Grabbers.:surepal:

yeah a little more mileage would be nice, lower cost = more camping trips.

Just wanted to say that I've really liked your sub. Been following your build.

When you take that platform out of the back for sound deadening, put some MLV (mass loaded vinyl) under under the carpet - ontop of the the jute, or even better put down a layer of closed-cell foam, then mlv then carpet.

I have an 86 K20 with a 383 wearing a roots style supercharger making between 4-5 lbs of boost. 750 CFM carb, headers. TH400 paired up to a Gear Vendors O/D. 4:10 gears, 35" Toyo A/T2 extreme tires, 4 inch lift. Roof rack. Winch bumper on front , multi carrier bumper with spare tire carrier on back. I get approximately 12 mpg on the highway. When I bought the truck prior to an mods it barely got 8 mpg. I figure that is about as good as I am going to get without a new engine tranny combination.

I'm happy to say I did something to Daisy today.

The old window switch hung out of the door for two years before it finally gave up and let the smoke out. So I got a new one from classicparts.com.

I've been slacking lately, Daisy needs kingpin bushings, maybe even pins, the tranny cooler needs to be moved and I need a new radiator. The weather has been nice lately, now is the time to be wrenching on it rather than wait til it's hot outside.

Has anyone ditched the cooler in the radiator altogether and just ran a big external cooler? I've gotten a 10x13" cooler with a 10" fan on it, I'm thinking about moving it back under the truck somewhere to get more airflow through the grille. I'd rather not run cooler lines up to the radiator then all the way back behind the t-case.

I've heard of it, but not done it myself. Supposedly ok if you're not in COLD weather. Just watch the temps.
