The restoration/modification of Daisy.

So I swung by the machine shop and paid for a new set of heads today, they'll be in next week. Works out to about $50 more than buying a set from Jegs, I don't mind considering I'm supporting a local shop this way.

50 bucks is well worth supporting a local buisness:waytogo:, the kit I posted is a GM performance kit so you can get it at any GM dealer, usually with free shipping. for anyone else thats wanting to do vortec heads

I got a bunch of Daisy parts painted this weekend. New cyl heads, rebuild kit and TnA engine crossmember are all on the way. Got some garage organization done while I was at it.

Forgot to mention that I found a color I like. Found it at Lowe's, called smoke grey, kinda battleship looking. I bought 10 cans.

Awesome. I may steal your color. Also been looking for an industrial looking grayish color. :thumb:

I like it, it's really close in color to the primer that I use and primer grey has always been a favorite of mine.

My heads are done, later this week I'll get the block, manifold, pan and few other things down there and get them all hot tanked.

Well the weekend came and went and daisy sat untouched. I did get the garage cleaned pretty well. And as a part of getting the garage in shape a built a grinder pedestal today. Sometime this week I'll fill it with concrete from a truck at work.

I'm not a fabricator, I'm a mechanic. But I'm feeling more confident with my welding ability lately.

ok guys ive got a couple questions.

1. can i reuse my original camshaft? (should i even ask?) the bearing journals are good, there are no visible signs of wear. its got 162k on it. ive reused cams at work but those are in Cats and Detroit diesels. i feel stupid even asking but i dont wanna put a lot of $$ into this damn engine... not sure why but i feel like engine building is tedious and a waste of time when i could be swapping my Dana 60 in, building a cool crossmember/skid or building a roof rack or something..

2. banjo fittings. are the banjo fittings for a dana 60 caliper the same as a 3/4 ton 10 bolt caliper? if i could reuse my brake lines that'd be great. if not i just need a new banjo fitting at the end, my brake llines have JIC fittings and the banjo is removable. probably wouldnt be a bad idea to dump all the brake fluid out anyway...

Just about every has said replace it. The wear surfaces take a set. On the other hand I have heard if you have a roller then reuse it. at 162K i'd replace it.

Just my 2 cents.

If its a roller its reuseable if it is in obvious good shape..flat tappet at that mileage replace without a doubt.
The banjo fittings I would think could be reusable, not sure about the seat on the caliper...if it seats fine, and the bolt for the caliper fits, give it a shot...new copper and you should be good.

Question #2 - I think NO. The threads on the calipers are different. I believe the Dana 60 banjo fitting is actually smaller than the Dana 44 fitting.

i'll buy new calipers for my 60 and take the front brake lines to the hydraulic shop i deal with at work and get the right banjo fittings, might as well dump out all the old brake fluid anyway...
i got my heads back today, been busy lately so i haven't had time to get them til now. brand new castings and everything, theyre pretty.

i got all my tie rod and drag link ends, rear shackles and a bitchin t-shirt from WFO concept the other day. my best friend is gonna make my steering links but first i have to get the dana 60 and steering box mounted so we can get accurate measurements. also i need to find a pitman arm, i'll check ORD's site, i'm sure they sell the right one. seems like he list of **** to buy never gets any smaller...
