The restoration/modification of Daisy.

I am not an expert nor a professional, but I think the displacement is different between the two compressors. If that is true the charge would be different. Having said all that, is your Sanden mounted on the drivers side? What bracket are you using? Just wondering, so when I get fed up with my R-4........

with the different compressor, condenser and manifold lines, it's certain to have a different capacity that stock. my compressor is mounted on the pass side cylinder head with a holley LS swap bracket kit.

Gotcha....

I know Henderson. My company puts on a poker tournament in Vegas and we use Henderson airport for overflow. I've flown in there several times.

i'm on the east end of henderson, 30min or so from the airport.

I leave for blazer bash in 55 days or so and I've got a lot of **** to do still. This weekend we're building a platform in the back for sleeping/storage. The rear bumper swing outs are critical, they HAVE to be done before Moab, so it's time to get serious about those.
So what kind of material should I build the swing outs out of? I'm building two, they'll meet in the middle where they'll be supported and latched. The drivers side will carry the spare tire and probably the hi-lift, pass side will carry fuel and water cans. I'm thinking 2" square tube, .250" wall for the main arms on the bottom and a lighter wall for the spare tire support.

i'm thinking .250" wall for the main arms and upright support for the spare, everything else out of .095"...

This will allow the doors to fully open, the tire might hit the side of the body but I'll set up a stop of some kind to hold it in place. I need to drill two 1.5" holes in the bumper and get the spindles welded in. The swing outs will pin in place when shut with spring loaded pull pins. Like these.

One thing I have found with bumpers like that is you need to do some very solid bracing below the pivot. It usually doesn't happen right away but after a couple years it starts to fatigue the metal. Actually I have seen it take 5 or 6 years. But it eventually happens. So added bracing under the bumper will help that

From looking at how far the doors open, I'd incorporate some sort of a stop pin in it, that wouldn't always stop it short of opening all the way but if you needed to. For instance if you were along the side the road, you could open it to 90* and stop it so you could still get in the back. Just a thought.

Yep. It'll be welded top and bottom and have gussets as well.

Good idea.

Oh lord fix that dent first... If nothing else smear some long and strong on it, sand and shoot it..

Is that a sealed primer on there already? don't remember if it's been said or asked before. This threads getting fat. Like a kid who has a BBQ addiction!:D

Yeah I think just something simple as a pin on the back side of the carrier that would move down into a hole in the bumper. Wouldn't need to be super stout.:thumb:

yeah there are a few small dents on the truck that i plan on fixing before paint. it is a sealed primer.

tomorrow i'll be working on the platform inside the truck with my dad, we'll have a couple racks of beef ribs cooking while we're at it. i'll take pics. :D

Ha, awesome. Hell since its sealed primer, I'd leave after fixing the dings of course. But that's just colorblind me. I did the same with my blazer, same color grey. I wanted to paint it a dark metallic grey and maybe a black Berliner lower half but... Meh.... Maybe the next rig.

Really looking forward to seeing the platform set up. Kinda wanted to do something similar in the blazer as well.

Have any drawings or stock photo ideas worth posting?

Also having a hard time talking myself out of a suburban thanks to you.. Really want to stick with a 69ish SWB pickup. But your thread is killing me considering everything you do to it I just think!!!!! Damn that's what I would have done.

Haha thanks fumes! I definitely want to paint it, the body really bugs me. I do have a few pics I've grabbed from other forums and Google for the platform.

I plan on having two drawers in the center and little cubby holes on the sides with removable lids. At the front end it'll have a hinged section to flip back so I can still use the middle seats. Hidesertwheelin 's platform is what I'm modeling it after. For some reason a lot of the pics on his thread aren't working for me.

last night we swapped out the compressor and recharged the system, she's blowing coooolllld! today i went to my parent's house and my dad helped me build a platform in the back. tomorrow i'll build something to support the front section of the platform when its folded forward, right now i've got a piece of wood holding it up. eventually i'll build some drawers for it. we also did some BBQin because dad was working on beef ribs and i know fumes will hate me for it...

I've never had good beef rib. Those look tasty though.

Martin

I try them every few places, I think I've only had good beef ribs from one place. And even then they weren't always consistent so I stopped ordering them. But man when they are on, they are so good.

That pork belly is calling my name lol.
