The restoration/modification of Daisy.

If you dont mind me asking, do you have the part number for your crossflow condenser? Mine is leaking, and I have done all the work to swap to 134A, except my newly leaking condenser.
Spectra P/N 7-3642 is a bolt in crossflow. It is actually the same condensor that is listed for my '89. Just open the box before paying, there are a few tube/fin style models floating around with the same part number....

That's the one I've got.

It blows cold!!!! The blower resistor is acting funny. When we first started I had all blower speeds but high, now I've got nothing but high speed. Also I believe we over charged it a little, we're going to evacuate the system Wednesday, check the orifice tube and recharge it.
But it blows cold!!!!

Saaaweet! The harness connector that plugs into the resistor acts funny sometimes for me. Wiggle it see what that does.

The resistor is shot. The low speeds go through the resistor, high speed goes through the high speed relay, not the resistor.

well, the compressor **** the bed... i'll be calling summit racing tomorrow to see when i can get a replacement. doesn't look like we're going camping this weekend.

Wtf!! Thats blows.... maybe they can get you a new one

yeah, it blows hot...

i edited my post, its under warranty, should be able to get a replacement without issue, Summit is pretty good with this stuff.

Do you know to only charge your system to approx. 80 percent of the original r-12 system call out? If you charge it to full, you will kill your compressor post haste. I know. I did it. If you have metal at the orifice tube, you can flush the evaporator with A/C flush, but I would replace the condenser with a new one. I have killed like 3 compressors thinking I had the condenser flushed only to have A/C for a week or so and then grenading another compressor.

I just replaced my whole system for the second time because
I'm tired of buying compressors.

I don't think the system in contaminated, it sounds like a bearing failed in the compressor. The pressures never dropped off and it only made noise above 3000rpm. When the new compressor shows up we'll pull the orifice tube and verify.
80% huh? Never heard that before.

I heard the same thing at an ac shop yesterday getting my Jimmy charged. I was told R22 was like 3lbs and R134a is 2.75.

I don't have a rear A/C system, just front. The charge for R-12 was originally 3.25 lbs. 2.75 lbs is a good number. Remember to be running at about 2000 rpms when charging and checking the gauges. Also have extra air blowing over the condenser.

If you put 3.25 lbs in, when the system gets hot and pressures get too high your R-4 compressor will be working its butt off. You can hear it struggling if it cycles off chances are when it try's to restart the belt will just slip and squeal.

Been there......

25/26th. I am gonna try to get there way late Thursday night and leave on Sunday sometime. Should give us enough time to finish it all up

Sweet sauce! That's the weekend my wife and I are there! Im gonna make a time to swing by and say hi.

i don't have an R4 compressor anymore, i'm using a sanden 508. we don't actually have a scale, we're just watching the pressures as it charges. my friend has been doing a/c work for years and has never bothered with scale. i might grab a scale and try it out when we recharge it.

that's the plan, John (rugger87) will be hanging around too. i'll smoke some ribs or something, we'll have a good time.

I am not an expert nor a professional, but I think the displacement is different between the two compressors. If that is true the charge would be different. Having said all that, is your Sanden mounted on the drivers side? What bracket are you using? Just wondering, so when I get fed up with my R-4........
