The restoration/modification of Daisy.

Yep, those will have the larger pilot hole to make them a universal wheel. GM uses a smaller hub.

i decided to take Daisy in the highway today (first time), she's good right up to 65mph with these tires. they start bouncing pretty bad at that point but everything else is doing great! she doesn't get hot, has plenty of power, sounds and feels great, beside the tires. i'm actually hoping to buy tires this weekend, finally saved up the cash. tomorrow or monday i'll tear my front axle apart and get the hubs back to my friend's shop to cut them down the rest of the way.

one thing about driving her on the highway that surprised me was the RPMs i'm running at highway speed. i was turning 2100rpm at 65mph, i was expecting it to be down around 1800 or so given that i'm running 4.10 gears and tires that measure 35.5" mounted.

****ty picture, truck was bouncing at that point.

I have a TH400 with a Gear Vendors O/D unit, 4:10 gears, and 35 inch tires. I run right at 2200 rpm at 65, so I'd say you are right in the ball park.

Awesome! I'm really glad to hear it, that means I don't have to shell out the cash for a regear.

Hubs are off, getting machined this week and the new wheels/tires will be installed by the weekend.

Friday morning my friend texted me and said he wasn't comfortable taking any more metal off the hubs to make the H2 wheels fit. So I bit the bullet and bought new hubs at a local gm dealer. Got home, opened up the boxes, threw inner bearings and seals in them, flipped em over and found this.

the locking hub won't install into it. I called the dealer and they won't have a new one til Tuesday. My tires will be in on Monday so I'm thinking I'll get the hub and tires on the way home and put it all together Tuesday night.

Couldn't you just have had a little taken out of the pilot hole in the wheels?

The restoration/modification of Daisy... [i just can't have nice things]

Not on my friend's lathe, he can only swing a 12" OD. and having all 4 of them opened up at a local machine shop would cost about the same as new hubs. He took a lot out of the weld at the base of the wheel mount surface, that's where we stopped feeling warm and fuzzy about it.

Subbed, I need some down time so I can read this all the way through.

Nice work on everything I've seen so far!!

Do you have hub caps yet?

Martin

Not yet. From what I hear I need the chrome ones originally mounted with polished aluminum wheels. I'd rather have the silver painted ones as they match the wheels. Of course I could just get some chrome ones and plastidip em silver.

I got tires today! They look shorter than I expected. I guess those old 37s were a little taller than I thought. I think I'll take the ez-inch out of the front, that'll make it look a little better.

Yeah, people make a way bigger deal out of the height of the military 37's than they should.

Doesn't look bad as is. I think those are cool tires. I thought you were getting duratracs.

I was thinking about duratracs, BFG A/Ts and these. I've heard that these are some of the toughest tires out there, that played a big part. Both of the other two have soft/weak sidewalls. I've killed BFGs and my brother has killed duratracs.
