The restoration/modification of Daisy.

Too bad you weren't closer, I have a couple of sets of doors it looks like you could use. :doah:

i have no clue where those dimples in the doors came from, they're in the same pattern on each door. they almost look like the back side of spot welds or something. before she gets paint i'm gonna have to touch up spots like that. i'll get more pics, they're weird.

so ive mentioned before that i'm not really happy with the suspension on my suburban. the front end needs to come down an inch or so and the the rear axle needs to move back an inch.
i dont really want to lift the rear any higher but she's also empty right now. with any camping gear/tools/etc added to the back she's gonna sag so i'm thinking a zero rate in the rear to move it back an inch should do ok. the driveline, brake line and shocks should all be fine.
the front is a little more complicated. i want to drop it 1" and that's gonna require some changes to be made. the driveline should be ok if i just go down an inch, moving the axle back 1" ain't gonna work so removing the zero rate isnt an option. if i get 3" tuff country springs and add my zero rates to them that should give me 1" less lift and keep the axle forward like it is now. the only problem with going any lower up front is that i'm gonna need shorter shocks. as is, i'm only using the bottom half of my shocks. with just some dirt road driving today i came within 1.5" of bottoming them out. so going any lower is gonna require 12" shocks for sure.
not sure if i wanna wait til i have the cash for ORD springs or just get some tuff country EZs... for my intended use, tuff country spring should be fine. she's not a rock crawler or a pre-runner, lots of travel is cool but it might encourage me to do stupid **** that i shouldnt be doing in a suburban...

Might seem a little strange, but could you pull the zero rates and then drill the spring mount pads an inch to the rear? Pushing the axle forward that inch.

As for shocks, with 2.5 to 4 inches of lift, Monroe shock 33084 works perfect with a simple bushing change. $26 each

i could but i'd rather buy new springs, these things ride like ****, even with one leaf removed. and i'll be sticking with bilsteins, i really like these shocks.

Dumb question so don't shoot me. You did flex her out before buying the shocks so you had fully stuffed and fully extended right? Have you thought about airbags with 3/5 psi in them as needed like i did with my chalet?
And final thought for the future. Save some pennies in a jar somewhere for a year and then get with Bilstien or the like and buy a purpose built resivor shock. Working in the oil patch i was amazed at the difference a good set of resivor shocks make.

yes and no... i didnt have upper sock mounts built when i flex tested her, bought 14" shocks thinking i would need them (assuming i was going to get ORD springs) and now i'm kinda re-thinking things. like i mentioned above, i have a feeling that tuff country springs will work just fine for me, not sure i'll ever wheel hard enough to justify custom springs.
i've never ran a remote reservoir shock before, good to know that they make a noticeable difference.

If your gonna swap springs. Get the ords man. Little more? yes.

But even just driving on the road, you will be much happier.

I would order them first however and install before messing with the rear. They seem to sit a little higher than the lift they suggest. They will settle about a half inch IIRC.

If your leaning against them because you dont want to get yourself into a situation you regret... Just establish some boundaries before wheeling.

establish boundaries? haha! whats the advertised lift of your springs? do you have a decent amount of room front the drivers side spring to the drag link? also can you measure the height of your front spring hangers like pictured earlier?

The ORD's would be the best option I believe. Especially for the on road stuff.

Don't link it. Link a buggy.

Mine were 4" lift springs. My rig sat perfectly level with those springs and a 4" shackle flip with 6" shackles. I'd say the fronts add an inch over.

I have a 1" spacer between the steering arm and knuckle. Lots of room.

I can get measurements some other time. Idl if it matters with different size tires and axles...

Link it :d

ORD's front link kit has crossed my mind a time or two. If coil overs weren't so expensive, I'd do it.

You're running 35s right? I know A Dana 60 adds about an inch of ride height over a 10bolt. So to make it level with the rear, I'm looking at a 2.5-3" spring. Hmmm, I wonder what my steering would think of that.
