The restoration/modification of Daisy.

I have had pumps go out like this. Start to fail and then work fine for a week or two. Then stumble again. Then back to good.

yeah I've seen it happen before too. one of my coworkers just nursed a bad fuel pump for a few weeks in his Ford Ranger.

The restoration/modification of Daisy… [regeared to 4.88 and killed the fuel ...

So the pump and filter are both swapped out, the brown **** that came out of the filter was pretty ugly.

Also when I took the sending unit out, the tank baffle moved, it wasn't secured to the bottom of the tank. So I got some sheet metal nuts and secured it.
Dropping the tank wasn't too hard thanks to my fuel tank adapter for my floor jack.

Check it out, 5psi gain at the rails.

When swapping the filter, I found that I didn't have the tool to remove the outlet line from the filter. So I improvised. I took a plastic cap like this.

sliced it down one side and cut the center out. It slides into the line and depressed the lock tabs in the filter to release the line. I stuck the new filter on and taped my new tool onto the line in case I need it again.

I took her for a drive and it really runs great, the new pump is almost completely silent as well. I dug out the receipt for my AC condenser and removed the cracked one from the truck, I'll get it replaced in Monday.

I leave for Moab in 39 days...

If that's what came out of the filter, then what'd the bottom of the tank look like?

It's not perfect but I didn't think it was too bad. Kinda shocked me when I dumped the filter, I was surprised.

Ingenious solutions are often the best. Glad the pump was the culprit (in so much as you have a good diagnosis and solved the problem )

Rock Auto sells new tanks that have welded in steel baffles as that plastic baffle has always been the down fall of those tanks. That should cure the sludge issue brother scott. And hey...you already have 75 towards said tank right?

yeah i do haha! if i replace the tank i'll swap in a 40gal and build a bitchin skid plate for it.

EDIT: rock auto sells everything i need, tank, sending unit and straps. $300 in parts, then i'd need to build a skid plate for it. hmmm...

Can you do me a favor. I was under the jimmy last night removing wire nuts from my fuel pump wiring. GM diagram says tan/white and pink to twin wire weather pak connector. Sender side is gray and purple. Do you remember what color goes in what cavity on said harness. I'm guessing purple to pink...but assuming with electrical is asking for problems...lol.

Wire nuts?!?!? Wow.

I'll check when I get home from work.

Yes sir...wire nits with signature wrapped in tape approach.
Gaining ground on the entire mess. Once i know the wire colors i can plug in the repaired wires to the connector body. Love having the actual weatherpack pliers...perfect crimps every time. After that drive shaft goes up. Xmember bolts get tightened. I think the only under truck items are a 4wd switch i am waiting for so the ecm see's its in 4wd and a fuel line. Dash is ready to go back on but i am waiting for an aftermarket rear window switch since the oem switch is disco. After that its all underhood.

The restoration/modification of Daisy… [Blazer Bash is getting closer]

I leave for Moab in 35 days!

Diff covers, pinion guard, misc tabs and an air tank (instantairsupply.com) are all ordered. Tubing for the front bumper will be bent/welded next week, the new AC condenser is in and system should be recharged (a-****ing-gain!) this week. This weekend I've got to find some dirt (shouldn't have a problem there) to do some break-in runs on the front diff. I'd like to get the rear LEDs wired up, install my 7" LEDs on the front and wire in the rear blower as well. And somewhere in there I need to build the rear bumper swing outs.

**** **** ****!!

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail....

- Tomorrow, i'm recharging the AC. and dropping the rain gutters/ cowl panel off to be sand blasted.
- Saturday, a test run to Utah. let the dogs run around and break in the front diff.
- Friday, the 14th, the tubes for the front bumper get cut and bent.
- Saturday, the 15th, front tubes get welded on and rear swing-outs get built.
- Saturday, the 22nd, a bunch of us meet up at my shop and sand the rest of the body and instal gutters/cowl to get her all primed before Moab.

There's all the big priority stuff, In-between all of these I'll be busy with all the smaller jobs like lights, USB ports and other lower priority items. If the smaller things don't get done, it's ok, the truck is ready and functional without them.

Looks like you got some work ahead of you, keep at it and before you know it we will be looking at each other's trucks.:thumb:

Your post just gave me a mini panic attack :haha:

Sounds good dude! I don't remember if you are subscribed to my crew cab build, but for stripping paint I'm using 3m 18424 clean n strip discs. They work very quickly! Might look into those to see if it's something you are interested in.
