The restoration/modification of Daisy.

here is what I used on my powerwagon but I never finished the truck before I moved.

I'm digging that. I don't have AC yet scott. I never made it that far and I've still been having tremendous fan problems. I ha e the problem of melting the wiring due to them coming on so much. Before the last trip I figured out that the thermal bulb in the radiator was causing my problem. I want to wire my relay into a sensor on the block. Now finding the right location might be time consuming but should be worth it.
As for your AC. Does the fan come on once your AC switch is on? When you get it back, can you spray water on the condenser and see a drastic pressure change? Check the actual temperature of the condenser inlet and outlet. See what the change is. Are your fans variable speed for AC on and engine hot as **** we need full speed?

Call me if you want some AC troubleshooting help. Don't give up on Electric yet.

...is the front air dam still in place? That is a key component of the cooling system. So I hear...

Are your radiator and condenser clean? fins straight?

You mean the plastic piece that hangs off the bottom of the stock bumper? That was gone about 15 years ago. And yes all the fins are straight, the condenser and radiator are both new. I also cleaned everything about a month ago, no bugs, mud, etc...

The only thing holding me back from a clutch fan set up is the loss in power. I've heard some people say it's hardly noticeable and some people say that it's very significant. Daisy isn't fast to begin with, she's heavy. Even with 4.88s I can't spin the tires on dry pavement. So part of me doesn't care about losing a little bit of power but then there's the hot rod side of me that wants every pony I can get a hold of. I can get a clutch, fan and shroud for less money than another pair of electric fans and be confident that I will be getting sufficient airflow in the end. These fans in there now really let me down, I think my old ones pulled harder.

Solid plan.

You might not call it a loss of power, but rather that you are directing a small percentage more to critical cooling duties via a mechanical engine fan. Maybe that's a delineation without a difference, but I support the idea of a deep pitch mechanical fan and stiff fan clutch, especially for a truck that's setup for work and adventure.

I take comfort each time mine engages, and the needle stays steady while I continue to pour on the coal.

That's odd about your cooling. I have a champion mc716 and windstars and it never exceeded 195 in Phoenix with AC blasting, but mine isn't an ls. The most dramatic improvement was at low speeds on the trail and low speeds with AC. When climbing hills, the temp climbed too but quickly cooled off when leveled out. Even more odd, on the freeway, when fans are not supposed to be needed, mine kept it 10 degrees cooler with fans on. What champion do you have? What AC compressor are you using?

You and I are on the same frequency here.

i miss my truck, without AC its a big ass paperweight and i haven't touched it in a couple weeks... i'm still having second thoughts on the fan setup. part of me wants to stick with electric fans and get some nice Spal ones or try a windstar setup. part of me wants to try the clutch setup. its too ****in hot outside, i have no motivation to work on the truck after being outside turning wrenches in the 110* heat all week at work. **** i need to move, i'm done with this heat shit.

There are occasional jobs up here for fellars such as yourself. Not alot of need for AC here its 72 at 8:30 headed to a low of 43 tonight:D

Yeah after doing the playground work last weekend in the 100°+heat, I've been thinking we need to move north.

My wife and I have been thinking about relocating for a while actually. Northern Nevada, Oregon and northern Arizona all look nice. We're wanting a cooler climate and a smaller town, a little more rural.

Been looking to relocate to someplace cooler myself. Housing took a dump here back in 08 and value's are just coming back up in my hood that I may be able to sell. Need to get some decent down payment saved up and I'm outta here.10:45pm and it's still about 100deg... :-(

My buddy just moved up to Washington state, been watching the temps up there and while it's a little wet, the temps are soooo much better.

I bought mine in 2010, I'm in great shape on it.

52 here at midnight pretty much. Though I'm still gonna eventually get the AC working cause now 90 feels stupid warm.

It's all relative right?

I wouldn't mind a little more rain. I've been getting about 4" a year for the last 31 or so years.
