The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
Carb or EFI? We're strictly talking about aftermarket throttle body EFI.
Both and yes

Had TBI and a sniper on the dual plane. More response than the MPFI on a single it has now.

Actually talked to a machinist friend of mine about making some screw in inserts for the dual plane to accept the MPFI system just to try it
Runs great above 3500. Ran better in the mountains on the carb...

LS parts. Won’t work
I just linked some random fuel injector bungs. It was more of the fact to say... They make weld in bungs. If you didn't know. I don't know what thread or style you need for the Eddy o Brock you got.

I’d have to measure and see. Haven’t gotten that far yet. Good to know they exist though

Maybe FiTech is different, maybe they only spray one injector at low RPMs to the correct side of a dual plane intake. I don't know the answer to that. I do know that there is tons of information out there saying that this is why my engine doesn't run well at low RPM. Out of curiosity what is your idle set at? I'm idling at 700 with a stock Goodwrench 350.

I have a 454 but it’s set to 700 (warm setting). The two other 350’s are set to 700 and 750 IIRC.
Interesting. I have my idle set to 600 or 650 on the Sniper'd stock 454. I would really prefer 500 but the idle wasn't very smooth. To me 700 seems quite high for an automatic. My hope was a single plane intake might let me run the idle down closer to 500.

I had a little time to work on it tonight. I got the fans mounted and radiator mocked up in the truck (still waiting on the right radiator brackets).

Old vs new fan setup:

Radiator somewhat in place:

I was just looking at a Champion radiator for the 73. Wonder if it's the same one.

That one is specifically for the 67-72. Direct replacement from Brother's Trucks, they had a good sale on them a few months back.

After you posted that earlier I had to go check if they were still on sale, but no luck now. Haha

I saved $100 on the radiator fan shroud combo, so not too bad.

I got everything back together, fixed the A/C (loose fitting) and took it for a test drive.
Everything was working great, but then I noticed the compressor was making a weird sound at high RPMs, then about a mile from the house the compressor all but froze up. It bogged the engine so much it almost stalled...

So much for having it ready for summer... The electric fans did help the A/C work really well though (until it died).

That's where I am with both my trucks, a/c compressors are bad.
I have the parts but no energy to work on them in the heat.

It won't be too hard to fix it, I'm just too busy right now. I'll probably order the pats next week and get it fixed next weekend.

Do you evacuate and charge the AC system yourself?

Be interested in some documentation on how you all do that. Just making a request for future posts on @r3dd0g's build. :D

I found they make a newer, "better" compressor for my 73 I was thinking would be nice to switch to next summer, but wasn't excited about having to pay the mechanic to evacuate and recharge the system.

Well harbor freight has the gauges and now also has a good vacuum pump.
Once you got those it's easy I can give you a step by step.

I had the HF gauge manifold, it leaked a bit and the knobs were junk and broke easily. I ended up buying a nice set off of Amazon for just under $100 and couldn't be happier. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TL32E6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have the HF vacuum pump, it works great!
I also got tired of using the little cans since I'm always recharging someones A/C system and got a big bottle off of Amazon as well.

Good to know I can get the big can from Amazon, I was trying to find out where I can get that
