The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
It's been a while since I've updated this thread, mainly because I've just been using the truck. I did forget to post a picture of the new wheels, I got sick of the mismatched wheels that were on it when I bought it.

This weekend Amber and I worked on the door windows and seats. We got replacement power window regulators (scissor lift OEM style) and it turns out they were still wrong, the company (Nu-Relics) has a set that is specifically designed for one piece windows and that's not what Brother's sent me to replace the garbage ones that came with my kit originally. I've sent them another e-mail and hopefully they get me the right ones soon. For now I installed the manual regulators that Brother's shipped me while they were trying to find a decent power window regulator to replace the one they were shipping with the kit.

The seats we chose are PRP Pros, I'm sure there's something that would make more sense in the shop truck, but I know PRP and I know they're comfortable so that's what I went with. I fabbed up a frame to mount the seats and a center console on and mocked it up in the truck. That's about as far as we made it today. Hopefully I'll get the mounting bracket bolted in to the truck and both seats mounted up by the end of the week. They're much more comfortable than the Dodge seats that were in it when I bought it, plus they give me quite a bit more leg room and weigh about 1/2 of what the other seats and brackets weighed.

Nice! I would love to do a PRP bench in the 73 but shipping really kills the deal.
You should see if they're going to EJS or some event close to you. If so usually you can just pick the stuff up there and avoid shipping.

We got a little bit more done on the seat bracket. There's not any wood involved in holding the seats up. This was good enough to verify that both I (6'1") and Amber (5') can have a decent seating position in the truck. That's always a challenge in the vehicles I build.

I need to bolt it down in a few more places, I would have used the stock locations but they aren't all there anymore thanks to the previous owner, so I just made some new ones. If I ever build a cage for this, the seat bracket will get tied into that.

All this work to this truck and still with that (?Chevy lumina??) Steering wheel?
Sorry, but horrible steering wheels is just one of my OCD things.

We finished up the seat bracket tonight, I like the way it came out. I have much more legroom than I had with the Dodge seats, plus the seats are way more comfortable and actually centered on the steering wheel.

I'll be building a center console that will tie into the bracket next, this is where I'll mount the power window switches, and some gauges.

Just something I think is cool about having the suspension seats in an old pickup.

I looked at more "hot rod" style seats, but the cost was ridiculous and I didn't like the way they looked anyways. I know I like PRP seats, and they are reasonably priced compared to the other options.

To get the TMI seats (only available in leather or vinyl) with brackets and a center console was going to be over $2k. There really weren't any other options since I didn't have the stock seat anymore. I am tempted to get something like this though, if I can make it work with my PRP seats.

Even though I'm doing a lot of "hot rod" stuff to the shop truck, it needs to remain easy to drive and comfortable so it remains usable. I plan on making the interior very clean and comfortable while leaving the exterior close to where it is now (once I get a chance to finish rubbing out the rest of the paint). It really is nice to drive, but the seats sucked and I didn't have enough legroom. These seats gave me about 6 more inches of leg room which was a big plus.

Black vinyl and Arizona are not two things that go great together.

yep, we removed the black vinyl buckets from the El Camino for the same reason. I'm digging your PRP's, they're spec'd in the same color scheme/materials as mine are. The light color tweed has been great in the 100+ summer temps.

How close is the back of your head to that back window?

Or you could just wear a bicycle helmet when you drive it...... Haha
