The Willomet Charger

A desecration to Mopar nuts everywhere, this is my protouring, LS-powered, 1970 Dodge Charger; built at my shop, Willomet Motor & Fabrication.
If you’re not trying to pass tech at a track I’d go with the most unobtrusive you possibly can. Big main tube, rear kickdowns as far outside as you can and front bars that run really low down by the seat so it’s easy to get in and out of, 6 point at max. Rigidity is mostly in the chassis anyway. Now if you wanna get crazy and start going through the firewall etc I won’t talk you out of it. I think you’d be 90% there with firewall to frame supports in front and a cross bar in the radiator area.

I don't remember if you said or not, but what are you using to coat/paint the inside of the assemblies you're making?

David,
Still absolutely hate this build...gets worse every-time I look at it.
Thought I had the chassis mods figured out for my TA Javelin but you keep taking it 10 steps further.
Your craftsmanship is incredible.

If you don't mind, I'd love to see it in person someday (and try and copy half of it).

Thank you for the kind words, and I’m glad to share. Some folks on the Mopar forum would directly agree with your first statement.

I'll make sure you’re invited to the next happy hour.

Purists always hate modifying cars. There’s those no fun allowed assholes that get butthurt if a certain car isn’t just like factory including chalk marks, date coded hoses and orange peel

But this is David we're talking about. He added factory-style chalk marks to his modifications fer cryin' out loud!

What is their problem?
Something, something, LS engine swap

It’s probably 90/10 purists/hotrodders over there. @Greg Ducato is on the forum, too. So, 90/9/1 purists/hotrodders/good guy.

It’s mostly restorations and light-medium modifications, with a few gnarly builds. I had originally planned something much simpler. Then I found more rust, and scored an LQ4. I held back offering details for a while, but someone asked, and withholding would have felt dishonest.

To be fair, there are as many who have expressed specific support (“it’s your car, build it for you”) as have been overtly disapproving (“it won’t be worth 1/4 of what you have in it, I’m unwatching”).

But that was the suburban, and it was about maintaining the caretaker lineage from my dad to me. He and I scrawled those numbers on the core support together. I do not have that sentimental connection to the Charger.

I’m all for confusing standards.

I’ve never been afraid to cut something up.

When I built my 32 Chevy from a complete and driving C5, I sold a bunch of parts to a guy with a c5.

When I told him I took it all apart to build a chassis and make a hot rod, his face is something i will never forget. You would’ve thought I throat punched a baby.

Haters gonna hate.

Can't please them all and apparently that's 90% of a mopar board in this case :D

Keep at it, I love the detail.
