The Willomet Charger

A desecration to Mopar nuts everywhere, this is my protouring, LS-powered, 1970 Dodge Charger; built at my shop, Willomet Motor & Fabrication.
...You would’ve thought I throat punched a baby.

Haters gonna hate.
Something from Hotrod back in 2014 sticks with me - “I’d rather be hated than ignored.”
Keep at it, I love the detail.
Always moving forward. Thanks man.
Stock sucks. Even if I had a Ferrari I would want to modify it.
100%, and especially when the car is already beaten up with bad body work and mismatched parts. There’s always an opportunity to “take out the ugly.”

I wouldn’t personally do a Ls but for great performance and drivability in addition to low price you almost can’t beat it.

I’d be tempted to do a 6.4 hemi and standalone EFI but I’m sure thatd be a lot more money.

I don’t get worried about engine swaps across brands, but if it makes 500 hp who cares what’s on the valvecovers

I spent the evening finely trimming the front rails so the torque boxes are square from the rocker to the rail and leave no gaps.

I’ve got some figuring to do on the plates and overlays that will tie the 1970 14ga frame rails to the new 11ga torque boxes. It will probably be 3 vertical plates - one on each side of the existing rail, and a third on the inside that will make a direct tie from the shock tower to the torque box.

Got to put it on paper, and then bend tech.

Had a few days lost to outpatient surgery (all is okay), and I'm back out in the shop...mostly. It gave me the chance to step back, measure, and make a few drawings for the planned frame overlays. These should transform the 48 year old 14ga front frame rails into something more like the new 11ga torque boxes and rockers.

Call it a poll. I made a few of these to consider; I'm a fan of the Rev5.

Good choices to have. I have a coin you can flip if it helps you decide...

You can see where this is going.

I have a handful of small client projects to get done before a long weekend getaway, so I’ll hit this early next week. Lots of squaring/checking/tacking/trimming to get these fitting just right.

I know I'm hella late on this, but if I'm ever mind-numbingly rich. I will buy a legitimate Hemi car, and LS swap it.

I LOVE 68-70 chargers, and 70-71 challengers, but most mopar guys take it too far. Then there's the numbers matching crowd. Not to mention I hate LS swaps. Would be the perfect anti hero car.

I’ve met some really cool Mopar folks that may disagree with my build aesthetic, but are encouraging of my project nonetheless. I’ve also met those who sport purple Nikes and drink a special mix of koolaid.

For the record, CK5 is easily the most welcoming forum on the internet where the only judgement is, “build it, drive it, fix it, repeat.”
