Tow rig upgrade and trailer purchase ideas

You don't want one with side rails, you can't take them off because they are there for structure, yout truck will not fit inn between them
, I never would have thought that in a million years. If you get some spare time could you give me the basics of how they work?
Soon its getting a built 4L80E and NP205 ......... and maybe a turbo:deal:
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, My pants just got a little tight.
MUST RESIST URGES!!!!!!!! :haha:

just go on a damned date :D
A date with a burb would be a pricey one for sure but if i picked the right one it could be a very long lasting enjoyable experience :deal:

Found a perfect trailer thats about 10 min from me but hes asking as much as a new one cost :doah: . Why the hell dont trailers depreciate like everything else!

p.s this trailer from earlier looks like a sweet deal

Hes asking 1400 firm but then hes posted like 5 different ads now and it says priced to sell, Might just be an asshole and throw him a lowball of 900 or 1000 bucks based on the electric brakes on it or not and see what he says. Likely going to be a :flipoff2: :haha: but with the amount of money im working with and my ambitious goals i really need to get everything as cheap as possible even if that means holding out for a few months

Hold out man, I got my trailer for 700 bucks. I could have turned around and sold it for 1200

Now that i have a decent amount of cash i think i might go post over on pirate and norcalbigdawgs and see if i cant find any smokin deals on trailers. I've found fellow 4x4 enthusiast much easier to deal with than the typical CL people.

Trailers for the most part, appreciate.

Trailers take an initial dip once they leave a dealer lot, and after that they just continue to climb back up in value very slowly.

You have to remember that trailers are basically 80% steel or aluminum. The price of iron continually climbs over the years, making the cost of new trailers higher and higher, pulling the used market up with it. The other thing, unlike cars, is not much goes wrong with a trailer either and a huge thing is that there really isn't much in technology that changes in trailers. An older trailer that is built really well, is still structurally sound, and has been refurbished is basically just as good as a trailer you could buy new today.

Here's a trailer I finished restoring a couple years ago. We built this trailer 20+ years ago and it's not new, and it's worth a lot more in value than it was 20 years ago when it was first built.

why would you hate to tow it that far?
Its got the same Wheelbase as my k5 but its waaaaaay lighter + its got warped rotors atm and the trailer has no trailer brakes.

I talked to him and he confirmed theres no trailer brakes but a ''kit'' is 120 per axle. If i can get it for 1000 its 80 in gas plus 240+ in brakes. 1320 total would be a smokin deal. As for modding a trailer for trailer brakes how do i find the right kit for the right axles. Do i ask him for the trailers brand, year and model like a car ooor

your Grand Cherokee has a tow rating of 5K with a 6, more with the 8. replace the rotors and go get it. what's the trailer weigh, 1,500 lbs maybe? you don't need no stinkeen brakes.........

As said, you can go get the trailer, it will be fine.

You would need to get under the trailer and read the identification plates on the axle and find out the brand. They are most likely 3500lb axles and I believe which calls for a 10" drum. If they are dexter then you've something good there.

As far as where to get them, call Redneck Trailer Supply down in Fowler, they have a huge warehouse and will have what you need. They can ship it right to you.

X2 on redneck there good to deal with I've ordered from them multiple times

Kind of a hijack but not.

Now that he has looked at and thought of burbs. What can you tow with a burb. I want to do this also with an 88 1/2 ton. But I cant for the life of me get an acurate tow rating.. I've seen everything from 5k to 9k :dunno:

Northern tool also has decent kits for trailer brakes. Not sure if thier prices are good though.

His biggest problem is the wheelbase, burbs kind of don't have that problem, biggest problem with a half ton burb would be the rear axle. 10 bolts are semifloaters with small bearings.

If you could upgrade the rear axle to a 9.5 14 bolt that would be good. You may need to upgrade springs but I have towed about 9k before with a half ton burb (with a swapped in 454) and it was fine. No issues at all.

Once again though trailer brakes would be an absolute must. The small brakes on a 10 bolt rear are not up to par to hauling down a 10k load very quickly.

i know a 3/4 ton Suburban with the towing setup (4.10's) has a GCWR of 16K. 1/2 ton with 3.73's i believe is 12K

do you have the sticker in the door? gear ratio?

Dad is saying because it has a hydraulic ram tilt set up it has 2 seperate frames which are going to increase weight and decrease payload and highly recommends against it. Thoughts on this?

OH GAWD,Dont bring up the burbs again. I was just grabbin dinner with my dad dreamin about a burb converted to one ton dually axles with Alcoas and 2wd for the mpgs (4wd rear technically :D). A nice dark Blue with a shine to it and a metal flake kind of texture oooooohhh godd. Captain chair style air ride seats up front. Keep stock 3/4 ton springs but get some heaaaavyy duty towing air bags. Put a T.V in the back and get some mobile internet along with a mini fridge. Multiple deep cycle batteries.:eek1::D

Im soooooo close to picking up a burb ASAP right now. but i got to get a trailer first so i can take my 76 k5 off insurance. Dad wont pay for insurance on another vehicle until i take one off :haha:
