Tuff country 4 inch lift opinions

I wheel this truck but not on trails that are extreme enough to require custom shock mounts, thanks for the input though. This thing flexes decently right now as it sits, enough to get me down the easy-moderately hard trails at Uwharrie where I wheel mostly. I'll see if I can get some photobucket pics up so yall can see my rig.

If you can halfway weld, custom shock mounts are easy. My front shocks mount vertical from my custom axle mounts to my upper custom mounts. And it still flexes pretty well for only being a 12" travel shock. Actually only about 11.8"

Why not 3 inch T/C spring up front with zero rate forward for more room for 35's and DIYX4 shackle flip in rear and bilstein shocks and shock mounts from dueling?
That is my idea for now but ORD's sale ends the 11th so need to figure out 100% what I need before then that's on sale. Anyone want to chime in on this setup and 100% I should get before sale ends?

Deuling shock mounts are always on sale price to paying ck5ers :deal:

Im honestly considering getting myself some rough country springs for the front cause they cost less and, after reading a thread that is up right now on best riding springs, what I've concluded is that if your running bilstien 5100s like a plan to be, the difference between rough and tuff is going to be very minor as far as ride quality, only difference might be longevity. I'll decide when I figure out the exact price difference, depending how much cheaper rc is will be the deciding factor. And Deuling you got a great looking truck, I love the side exit pipes, do yours not smell up the cab, I had sidepipes like that before I just had my new full length exhaust put on and those things fumed you out with the windows down(not back).

Ive had the pipes straight out the back, out the back corners, and where they are now. Every situation smells the cab with top on and back window down. I dont notice it at all with the rear window up.

Top off and I dont smell any fumes.

And those are actually the mufflers sticking out the sides. Not the tips. Supertrapps :D

Now the big question........

Will your stock drive shafts be long enough?

It differs so there's a chance you won't need a custom shaft. I'm not sure what the odds are but it has happened more than once that you'll need custom shafts with a 4" lift. With moderate wheeling it may not matter but something to look for.

Correct. With custom springs like mine, most definately. I use almost all of a custom 8" travel slip yoke. The stock one popped out with a few bounces of the truck sitting on the ground and my buddies pushing up and down on the bumper.

From what I've read on 4 inch lifts I won't need custom anything. Might need brake line extensions and some other minor little drop kits for stuff but driveshafts are supposed to be good for lifts under 6 inches. And I've seem stock driveshafts run with a 6 inch with a tcase drop, zero rates etc. not sure if it was a wheeler but it was driving. If I do find out I have to get custom shafts for a 4 inch kit than I'm screwing it and putting on a 2 inch. Can't afford those things right now.

I could have driven mine down the road without redoing the shafts.

But thats about it. As soon as it went into the dunes I would have been screwed.

But a 4" ord custom spring really nets about 5" lift.

badmix may be getting a decent ride from his 2" RC's, but EVERY single rig I've been in with 4" s road like cr@p...

Well... Nevermind then haha. Thought I was gonna save some $$ but I'm not getting those things if they ride like crap. I geuss 4 inch rides a lot rougher than 2, back to tuff country it is. Yall think I'll need custom shafts with 4 inch front springs, stock rear springs and the diy4x shackle flip?

shaft length should be ok, but you may need a degree shim in the back for a good pinion angle..

Shackle flips basically just rotate the pinion up. So yes as paul said you will need a shim to shim it down, or you will need a cv driveshaft (that's what I did)

Cool, I didn't think I needed new shafts, and I had figured on having to shim, it's not a big deal though since I'll have the axle free anyway. Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it, hopefully I'll be able to stop dreaming in a few months and make this happen!

You can put the pics directly in your thread by using the links on Photobucket... but someone needs to have a talk with you about your photography skills :doah:

Hey man it wasn't me, you'll have to take that up with my buddy, he was spotting me and snapped a few pics, hell he took them with a iPhone 5 so I didn't think they were that bad. Haha

Those pics pook good to me. Rig looks good.

Why lift it any more actually?
