well i might as well have one too....my build thread...

im gonna widen my trailer...im stealing formuds idea and welding 6 inch angle to the sides...that will put my trailer at94 inches wide...i will prolly just take the fenders off for now till i can make them removable...im sure the quarters will get bashed up preety good....im really dreading pulling the gas tank...its half full and the straps are rusty and it has a skid plate...not looking foward to doing a flip AGAIN!!

hook a cheap electric fuel pump up and drain the tank. I have a pump I bought for an old car that I kept after I wrecked the car to use just for dropping tanks. it only takes a few minutes and a full tank is empty.

not a bad idea...i just freaking hate dropping thoose tanks...today i was trying to fiqure out a way no to have to...the result was im still gonna have to drop it...

You could always use a piece of hose and syphon the old gas out....Just put your lips together and suck.:D

And where do you put the 30 gallons of gas? Subscribed. Somewhat along the lines of how I wanna build my truck. Looking good.

I actually installed the shackle flip on my truck without dropping the gas tank. It took some time but it is possible

I can't imagine trying to get your hands in to put the nuts on, I think it would be easier just to drop the tank, do you have a quad jack? I used one to remove mine, but I put it back in myself, trying not to scratch the fresh paint, talk about hard hah. blazers looking great! Any idea where to find a clean body?

i just gave away a whole k5 but the body was not clean...

Yeah, I don't know if those two together mix hah. I hate to put a truck cab on it, but I doubt i'll find a clean blazer tub.

really what did you end up doing???
I was able to slide to tank over to the opposite side I was working on. Then I removed the old hangers, you know how to do that. When it came time to install the shackle flip I put the bolts in through the backside of the frame. I used a flexible magnet to fish the bolt through. Tightened the nuts the best I could (before the bolt started spinning) then used a pry bar to pry the bracket away from the frame, this allowed me to tighten the nuts.

Now if you had kert's shackle flip you'd be made in the shade because he welds the nuts to a plate so you don't need to fit a wrench on the backside

I don't know if it could be done or not, but when you are mounting snow plows and the frame is boxed and you need to install a nut down in the frame. We used to weld a long piece of flat stock onto a nut and fished it down inside the frame. When you tightened down the bolt the flat stock wouldn't let the nut turn. Also if you use one of those nuts with the flat face and serrated cuts in them, they would help them from turning too.
You might have to remove the bummer to do this, but that is less trouble than removing the tank.
Just an idea.
