Thanks Rob that fan is huge, to bad it is turning the opposite direction for my use. I am leaning on the 7 blade gas engine fan or the 5 blade oil burner, haven't found a 7 blade oil burner yet.

Further testing mid to hi 80's this afternoon ran 1/3rd at 25mph flat, and level ac on, turn up hill and starts climbing. 25 mph in 3rd is less than 1500 rpm with the 37's
If it helps your search efforts you can use a C/K-30 big block application with a 4.56 gear option for the heavy pitch 7-blade fan - doesn’t need to be just a diesel application.

Victim of shitty new parts:angry1:.
Last Sept on way home from UnBlazer Bash my Hayden extreme duty fan clutch gave up. Maybe 4 years old tops.
Grabbed a Duralast for expedience. Worked adequately during the winter. Not so much this spring with ac on.
Ordered amother Hayden 2797
Install. No change. Try a different fan, this time factory 5 blade. No change. 5 blade fan duralast clutch no change.
I am going nuts, thinking the big tires changed my rpm enough that I need a high flow water pump. Better electric condenser fan, 7 blade fan, idk what.
Well I spent $$ on a 12" Derale high out put pusher electric, and I got a OER 7 blade repop fan. Alreadyvhad a 6 blade Derale 19" fan.
OER seem to be 19.25" and @ 1/4" more pitch than the Derale. Original 5 blade is 2 9/16".
How I measured

So I put new 7 blade on newest Hayden clutch. Check rad and condenser for debris blockages, all good, but blow the dust out for good measure.
All back together test time.
On choke the fan holds a red rag to grill.
20250504_135318.jpg
Off choke @900 rpm not so much.
Temp guage gets up to 1/4 where it runs normal. So far so good. Turn on max ac,temp starts climbing just like before.
I am standing over rad with my hand in air stream no force at all. Guage is up to half still no clutch engagement. Over half up to 5/8ths this is well over 215° at tstat, rad is to hot to touch.
Hayden clutch never engaged.
Dig out an old dirty oem clutch from my pile, swap it out. Truck is still hot. Fire it up turn max ac on, sitting at 1/4 on the guage just where I like it.
Sitting in cab typing this with max ac, actually getting chilly. We have some over xast and scattered T storms today. Not really a warm Havasu day shop thermometer is at 75.

So when someone here says they got a new whatever that dont mean shit. I had 2 new different brands and both were crap. Both being returned, and nasty reviews puplished.

Yep. New parts plain suck

Anymore I figure if an old part is still working, I'm not going to replace it just for the sake of a new part. In the past I would do that figuring I'd have a more reliable part with it being new. Now I figure it's just as much of a crap shoot.

The current clutch is a Gm part,I can not name it's history ir which truck it is from.
I did try a thrid clutch,a non thermal from my pile,it was nfg as well.
Yeah thinking the parts situation is only gonba get worse. Going full hoader now.

Yeah you have me beat, I had been actively avoiding collecting, for lack of room. land in Yucca is cheap, and containers aren't to expensive either.............. slippery slope

Been thinking about my fan clutch failure owh from not BB24, quite a bit. I have come to the assumption that flexing allowed the fan to hit the shroud and damage the clutch.
I was gonna just carry an extra clutch for this year, but last year the clutch failure also caused my ac clutch coil to melt, going to add a thermal limiter to the circuit anyway.

This morning I ordered Winstar fan set up and some of the wiring I'll need to se it up.

The windstar fans became very famous because too many people had your problem when flexing on a trail, plus they do flow a lot more ait when on the trail than a mechanical fan.
It's like how people switch to hydraulic clutch to avoid the problems while flexing

So after converting my 77 sub, sbc, q jet carb, np205, 4.10, 33, to use a 700r4, the truck ran horrible up any grade in 3 and 4th. I pulled the carb off and ran spray carb cleaner and compressed air through all passages, new gaskets, etc. Recheck/set adjustments. Truck ran pretty good for @ 200 miles. Last Monday evening I was south bound on I15 in Victorville, I could not get over 45 50 mph w/o the engine cutting in and out. 4th gear @1500 rpms, manual shift into 3rd no change. So after cresting the hill. 65 70 no problem. Down hill , level runs great, around town no issues.
I have considered the pick up coil in distributor, but haven't investigated.
Suspect a lean miss fire at under load, basically because the q jet isn't designed to meter fuel for power at 1500 rpms.
Question is how to get the q jet to meter more fuel under those vacuum conditions. 4.56 would probably help, and I am leaning that way, but $$ aren't available atm.
I would like to hear if others, with a carbed 700r4 are running well or what remedies they came up with.
My current plan is to either up the main jets, or reduce the main rod diameter, and if possible adjust the main rod vacuum piston to lift sooner.
I was using an edel carb, so probably no help there, however I never had issues with the carb at any speed or load range, but i eventually went with sniper efi.

after adding an electric fuel pump the same q jet has been running well, for several 10s of thousands of miles. I have been "adjusting" jets and needles a bit lately purely for experimentation. Will probably go back to original with softer power piston spring.

it's now connected no splines showing. At ride height there was 3/4" slip showing, wanted a little more so move axle forward.
Yes but it will not droop on it's own to match the yoke, I think you cv is maxed out
