Ended up getting a red top Optima on Tuesday, No one in town had any other AGM group 34. Tuesday morning needed a boost to crank at speed.
Battery must have weak for awhile, this new Optima spins and start in far fewer revelations maybe 2. So should be good to go for Moab.

Praise the Lord and pass the soup? :haha:

Good to read you got it sorted out.

Well I decided to do louvers, even thought I still have qualms cutting hood.
I got some small bolt on aluminum louvers.

Going to use a hole saw to open up hood and leave some hood skin
Project for another day, today is front p brake in the 01

This to try and address overheating? 41 pages later I have no idea whats going on lol.

If it were me (as I hate cutting the metal) I'd take the hood off completely and verify that fixed the problem before irreversibly modifying it.

No overheating. Only started to get warm on some up switch backs in Moab last year, with AC on. Shut ac off cooled right down.
Last outting never got above 1/2 on gauge, even when AC was working.
Still think there room for improvement.

Exhausting under hood hot air ( other than freezing type temps ) should be standard fare for every engine bay.
Helps with prolonging the life of almost anything under the hood and avoids major heat soak when not moving at idle, low speeds and short term engine shutdown time.

I think those vents are a great idea to aid in rejecting normal heat and not just trying to help fix a known problem.

I seem to recall back in the day more squares with hood louvers in the truck rags than other brands. My memory could be faulty here. Don't have those magazines any more

Been a daily rig for the week. After the new oil cooler lines were finished ( gonna jinks it here) NO F'n oil leaks from the engine. T case still leaks.
New battery spins her over very nicely, charges a bit better too.
Swap spots in shop with the 01, will prob start the louvers tomorrow. Did a little placement exploring today.

Almost got louvers done. Last minute I wanted SS flat washers for the button head ss ¼x20, no one in town had the OD I wanted .480. Ordered from the jungle site, be here sat.
20 thread certs in, close cell insulation tape. Tape will compensate for the thread certs.20240822_122546.jpg

All good on the less than stellar castings I chose 30ish years ago, 624 for inquiring minds.

I think my suburban may be in a similar situation. I know it smokes a little blue on startup which I’m sure is valve guide seals.
But it seems to blow some whiteish smoke sometimes that smells like my brothers ford when it was drinking coolant. It seems to go away when it warms up though. Not sure.

I hope it is good, sometimes a very tiny crack will only show on extended higher speed trips. Block check would confirm or deny, Could also be the intake shrinking when cool, sealing as it warms up. Give all the intake bolts a twist

Decided to check my headlamp wiring. SS brush the connectors at core support.
Well looky here.

Wasn't as bad before being posed

Yep sure is passenger headlamp ground.

With out the ground.

With the ground cleaned and repaired.

I think this is why I couldn't see coming home the other night.
Might also explain the low system voltage with headlamps on.

Edit parking/turn signal too

What a difference!
Ya forget just how much better that mod is until ya get a good side by side comparison.

How did we ever survive with such low light quality…
