Been driving this around a bit more recently. Runs pretty good.
Mid afternoons in the ambient 107-114 range, AC running, temp gauge reads ½ to ⅝. I checked this against my thermal temp gun, that is 220° at the therm. Way warmer than I like. No room for error.
Popped the 170° t stat out, put it on the range in pan of water.
At 170° is fully closed. 180° is just cracking open20240828_151425.jpg
Pic is 180°
Doesn't really open until above 190°
Got a Me Gasket hi flow 160° be here Friday. This should keep it cool in Moab.

New Hella E code lamps are installed.

Am hoping for lower current draw with the E code Hella.
Oh the left sealed beam when pulled the band
20240828_124942.jpg
That band had two tabs fall off
So glad I have wire feed welder

The Hella bulb seal is much larger than the sealed beamed, provides just a bit more tension on the bands.

Burb has done well, this not Blazer Bash 24 trip. Drove the 525 miles to Moab, 2 days worth onf trails, the biggest stairs, and drops to date. One shot for all the obstacles, I did have @ZooMad75 line to follow.
Only the cab steps were casualties. Will start planing some sliders with a step so entry and exit are easier.
Gotta work on my pinion angle, have an under power vibration that needs to be addressed. Think it time to ditch the shims, and adjust the perches.
Also appears my t case won't go into low range, (np205).
I was able to select it last year during a test drive.
In St George visiting dad, be home this Friday, burb still has @400 miles to go.
Ps gas mileage is horrible :haha:So far $400ish in fuel

The burb did great. Got to see some great sights too. Plus the ac on Saturday helped the kid take the edge off from being cooked in my truck. Thanks for that.

The trip from St George home was OK, ran 75-80 no issues, mostly down hill the whole way.
Outside of Mesquite NV the ac quit, wouldn't turn back on. I had it on normal low fan, thought maybe the evaporator froze. Stopped at next paved wide spot on I15, called Glendale NV. Opened the hood gave the compressor a nasty glare, banged on the relay center, and it started working. Worked the whole way home. Left it set at max and hi fan.

Two blocks from home, 25 mph in 3rd, truck got to 3/4 on the temp guage that has to be around 250° shut the ac off and temp dropped to half in the last two blocks. Wasn't even 100° ambient. Very odd, on the trails last weekend, I never got 1/2, mostly read 1/3rd.
Only thing I got us air flow.
Haven't looked at anything yet. Rad level was full before leaving St George.

Maybe it's a 4 year old Hayden. I put the 77 in the shop after it cooled down rad is still full, overflow has a pint or more, fan has some resistance, belts are tight. I did have a belt squeal for 1/2 a block when temp was high. My guess at the time was boil over coolant on belt, but no sign of coolant spray.
I have a severe duty clutch available will switch it out and try the 2 mile 500 ft elevation gain route again before we get to cool.

It was pissed you were going back to hot hole!

placed an order with USA1 Ind, For new hood springs, rubber hood side bumpers and the front adjustable hood bumpers. My hood was bouncing around something fierce at 75-80 mph, the springs have been shot for quit awhile.
Order the correct grill as well. looking forward to seeing the truck with proper grill instead of the GMC one.

Hopefully I don't have to wait till next year for my order to ship, so far no eta from USA1, has only been 4 days since order was placed. I couldn't bring myself to order from LMC, past let downs have soured me. USA1 was the only vendor I found that had the hood bumpers and springs, grill was impulse add.

I must have low standards because i usually have great luck with lmc.

I did like the ac vent regulators I got from them. Didn't care for the fan switch which was missing a terminal, the window reg shafts seals which were 1/3rd the size of factory, or the barn door strap anchors 1/2 the diameter of originals.

I contacted LMC about the fan switch, took them 6 weeks to say so sad to bad, we don't care.

That's just the Chevy items, I could make a list of Ford stuff that ain't up to par too.

Well I was out in the shop this afternoon, after putting some tubes in some old sand tires for the dune buggy, I thought I'd swap out the fan clutch. Before tearing into double checked belts, and giving the fan clutch a spin by hand. Notice the the fan was loose on clutch, one bolt MIA, and the ac belt was sloppy loose, in fact it broken. The clutch is locked up tight, this might explain the short stoppage near Mesquite NV. Weird I turned the ac off when the engine temp was getting hot, it was blowing cold even as the engine temp was rising.
typing this out right know I am thinking I need to go look and see if the missing bolt has fowled the ac clutch.

nope the missing bolt is not effecting the clutch. This is a Four Seasons 58098 A6 style compressor. I looked to see if a clutch was available in case is just the clutch, doesn't seem like it is.

Gotta love them ole A6 style compressors and clutches.

Wes, keep an eye on your water pump shaft bearings for a while since you had a F/C lock up - that’s a lot of thrust force applied to those bearings especially if it saw any sustained higher RPM’s.
Worth keeping an eye on it just in case.

Swap out the fan clutch, new one is an Autozone 22045. Don't recommend, pilot hole is oversized, but they provide a bush for the smaller pilot. Bushing is 1/2" tall but pilot hole is at least 3/4" if not more. Flange is slotted instead holes drilled, so split lock washers are useless. I put it on anyway. The old one didn't have any play, of appearance oil leak, tension to turn was smooth and firm. Compared the 22045 the old was just a tad stiffer to turn.

I then disassembled the ac clutch. Pictures below. It burned up. I need to figure out why. Either the bearing couldn't take the belt load, or the clutch cycled/slipped to much. The wear on the disc doesn't lend credence to slipping.

System is still full and front seal looks to have survived the heat, that melted the coil

On my ford superduty the clutches are known to slip if the gap is too large. There's a spec on the Ford, I'd imagine there's one on the GM as well.

yeah I have adjust many a clutch gap in the past this clutch came with the compressor, direct from 4 seasons, and the disc is covered by the pulley. (you can't see or check it with out removing the pulley).
Also I expect to see a lot of blue steel had it been slipping to much.
