who is still running 6 lugs...on purpose?

I think I will keep searching for a SF 14 bolt. Thank you for all the replies

I don't think 3.73 and 35s will be very bad with my sm465 and tbi motor. I'll have to plug it into the gear calc, but I don't mind having a bit taller gears when I have the granny low and 208 low range. Plenty low for what i'll do with a multi purpose rig

The aftermarket custom hubs totally blow the budget for me. And I have nothing against the mighty 14 FF. I've owned plenty. Its overkill tho for what this rig will be doing. Plus I like the look/nostalgia of the rallys. When/if money ever allows for a purpose built trail rig, 8 lugs will go in for sure.

There are a lot of rigs in the "how will my rig look" thread with 35s and 2.5 lift. I plan to lower my bump stops too. We'll see. The lift will go on first then i'll mock things up.

with the 465 you may not have an issue, I didn't know what you were running for a trans, so I was just stating the info from running with the 700r4 like I run. :D

I guess if I would have read your sig line alittle more carefully, I would have seen your trans listed in there..:doah:

moog problem solver BJs .

I would be interested in the longetivity, especially on a street driven rig, but these may very well be the answer to broken ball joints.

Im running 8-lugs but a 14bsf rear and 10 bolt front. If I find a good deal on a 14bff Ill probably swap the rear eventually but for now a 60 front is out of the question.

Running 37 boggers with a welded carrier and I always wear my lightweight shoes when driving. Broke 2 stock u-joints in 2 years. Ive got one more set of 28 spline axles and after they get broke Im going to grab some 30 spline chromoly axles and keep going till I either have catastrophic damage or find the need for larger tires.

Those are sweet but the price is hefty for half ton stuff, no matter how sturdy. Maybe in the far future though

6 lug on the Jimmy for now. One tons may come around someday but my plan if they don't is to put a SF 14 bolt in ( 6 lug) and beef up the front to handle 37s and a front locker.

Not really on purpose or not. Just the way its going

Still running 6 lug. Only problem in 6 years. One broken locking hub. and a bent front axle due to a bad landing at 45 MPH. Rear is a Currie 9+. front stock 10 bolt. 35's with 4.56:1 gears. Rear locked. Front open. Bone stock 5.7 and 700r4.

You give inspiration why ive never abandon the lowly 10bolt. :D

Still running with the 6 luggers, no real rush to swap the new axles in mostly since I'm dealing with the credit cards from christmas. Figured I'll get those paid off, get a new roof on the house, and probably replace the house ac system with a 2 ton system instead of a new 1 ton system. Besides I just bought new tires for the 15" rims so that would be throwing money away. I like the 6 lug rims with the outside beadlock, its fake, but damnit I like the ****ing things, **** you. I'll replace when I want. I've pretty much stalled out on the 14 bolt truss for now, until winter time gets out of here, it's such a pain in the ass to get my stuff all set up to weld then have to pull my stuff of of the table for a 'hot' project for the fire department. I rebuild the front and rear axles and the kid that is buying them is wanting the springs to so 1, I don't have to hear my wife bitch about parts sitting in the barn, and 2, the tires and rim size I want to go to wouldn't fit under the truck without new springs anyways so again, I'll get it done when I feel like it.

Hey Wade, dot you have big wheel studs in the front also?, and that
6 lug 9 is Bdass

someone explain the bigger wheel stud senario to me. does the SF14 have bigger wheels studs? to the front rotors have to be drilled out to accept bigger wheel studs? what size are you guys upsizing to?

My dad built the old man Currie's first rear end jig for the golf cart rear end builds. It's all about who you know. I called it sponsorship. Can not tell what I paid.

Worth every penny at retail price. Supply your own brakes. I used factory 2000 chevy 1/2 ton rear disk brakes. Can find the parts anywhere.

Ya bigger/longer wheel studs here and they make a huge difference. Before my lug nuts would hardly grip the factory short/tiny studs. I measured the knurl and ordered a set for the front and rear. They came out to be 3" long with the quick thread head on them. :pimp:

Mine is definitely on purpose, I've got a 10 bolt front 12 bolt rear running 44's that I DD. Not saying its held up by any means though, I've had hell with the rear end. Rebuilt it 4 times before getting smart and finally buying 1 tons. I'm just asking for it though with these tires. I have definitely learned to have a lighter skinny pedal foot and all it sees is the street and mud only. I've got 1 tons sitting in the garage now that I'm slowly building, just trying to make these 1/2 tons last until I'm done with them! I ran 35's for years on the axles, and 38's, never had an issue.

A 14sf is plenty strong. Next time I see one for $150. I will let you know. I have found 3 in one day before. The pick-n-pull in Tigard usually has them. Their prices are going up though. I would guess close to $200 these days.

I wouldn't even consider a 12b.

What's the difference? When it comes down to it they are both semi floater axles with C-clips.
