who is still running 6 lugs...on purpose?

Seems like a lot of time/effort/money for no reason.

Martin
Not really.
I could get this done for under $50 for everything, I think it's worth it to get a 6 lug strong axle and keep the 6 lug set of wheel tire.:thumb:

Just so you guys are aware, since it was asked, there were 8lug 16" rally wheels as well. I only know cuz I ended up with 2 of them. Unfortunately have not found 2 more.

 I'm interested if it could be done somewhat affordably. $400-500 wouldn't be really worth it to me tho...

Imiceman, are you taking reg. 14ff hubs and having them turned down? how do you go about redrilling for 6 lug pattern? to you have to fill the old holes and stard all over? could fellow K5er get some $50 6 lug FF hubs? :thumb:

also, how much material is removed?

all i could find are custom made ones $$$

you have any pics of the ones you got?

Half ton axles work just fine, especially for what you're running.

I snapped an axle once on my rear 10 bolt. I'm locked with 4.56 gears and 35's. I replaced the rear axles with some chromoly units from superior, haven't snapped an axle since. They costed me $99 per axle from ORD.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, I beat the piss out of my K5.:saweet:

Only if I go out and take a pic in the dark. I honestly don't even remember how I ended up with them. I may drag 1 in when I finish dinner to snap a pic.
I can also attest to Chicken beating the crap outta his K5.

I've seen MrsChickenRammit beat the snot out of his 10 bolts, but not him.
I broke one of those Chromo superior axle shafts Chicken was clucking about but I was driving stoopid. Avoid repeated wheel hops.

OK, took a pic of the 8 lugs I have. Don't have the center caps, but have beauty rings on them.

Not much tech to add. I just decided to use 6 lug because I wanted to use 15" wheels. There isn't a lot of options for 8 lug 15" wheels.
When I had my 73 during the early nineties, 15" and 16.5" where your choice of tires. 16" didn't have many choices back then. 16.5 suck unless you have h1 wheels. The taper and lack of a safety bead make the 16.5 prone to roll a bead when aired down. It was just in the last 10 years that tire and rim option really exploded.

I still like the classic look of slot mags on a 15'' rim. However, I go to the dunes a lot, and those bigger rims just don't perform without a lot a sidewall. A lot people go out to dune with those "dubs" and rubber band tires and get stuck all the time. They all think they all cool and **** even when stuck.:surepal:

BTW I'm running the 14bsf 6 lug rear end and it is holding up.

That's awesome! :thumb:

I've run the 12bolt and 44 12 years now. 12 bolt is 4.56 detroit locker and hardened axles. 44,4.56, tru-trac everything else,stock.
and they have seen a fair share of abuse...just ask Chckenrammit.

My blazer was bone stock untill I put on the 35 Micky tees .I tore up my rear and when I busted the universal the driveshaft swung around and smashed through the floor also cracking the transfercase in half.

I am doing this on my own hubs, and the work is being done by a friend on his off time, not a commercial price here, but yeah we redrill for the right pattern then fill the old holes. and turn the hub down.
I will ask what it would be for someone else, I am sure it won't be $400 but might be $100.
If you can find a local guy though it would be better because shipping these suckers ain't cheap.

Still have what it came off the assembly line with, 6 lugs, D44 front and a 12B rear with 4.56 gears. Still run them because its faster to change a flat, those last 2 bolts holding on each wheel are killer. Hahaha just kidding, I want to swap in a 14 bolt FF but I don't have the money to do it right now, will be later on down the road.

I went out and snapped a couple of pics.....

And some peoples concerns with this whole situation is being able to run the 6 lug rally wheels and center caps and such. That doesn't really look like a rally wheel cap will fit over that hub. :dunno:

And that would be where the 14bsf would win. Because you can run the factory wheels.

I went 8 lugs and H2s. Done.
