Wife's 67 Power Wagon Build -Cage complete!

Most of it will be 1.75 x 0.120 wall DOM

The interior of the old truck is very rounded and the cab tappers in substantially.

My plan is to keep everything as tight to the sheet metal as possible with only enough clearance to be able to remove the cage by use of the connectors on the roof bars.

No matter how much stuff I have on hand I still get jobs that I'm not prepared for coming in the door.:D
 
Front and rear hoops in place.

Held the front and rear hoops in place to begin fab the side top bars with the connector in the center.

These were a bit tricky.

Couldn't use the JD2 cope fixture on the radius copes.

Had to set up the mill with an annular cutter for the compound angle fitting.

One cool tool for the copes was a special flap disk.

Not sure if too many of you guys are familiar with these but they are Fantastic!!

Ceramic 60 grit, Bull nose flap disk.
Made by Pferd, and are a blessing when fine tuning a cope.

Outer side bars 1st.

Had to angle the connectors at 45 degrees to be able to access the hardware for removal.

Determined the rear section was best to drop down for removal purpose so the connectors could only go in 1 way.

Top center bars are spaced wide enough to relocate the CB up top.

These 2 bars were my last piece of work on the Friday.

Went home to dinner and some out of town family guests for dinner and a couple Beers or "neers"...:D

Project on hold for recovery from Stupidity..??

After entertaining our guests I decided to take my Quad out to the back of our property to check for recent Turkey tracks, with the season opening in April, I thought it would be a good idea before dark.

Hit a deep rut and went over the handle bars, Kissed the front tiedown rack and bounced back onto my seat.:doah:

Didn't even let go of the handle bars....!!!

Tore the crap out of my face!! almost bit my toung off, tore the gums but didn't take out any teeth!!:eek1:

20 stitches later, home all drugged up and Pissed that I was loosing a day on the build!!!!!

Damn brother:eek1: Hopefully you feel better soon, though I think it's gonna be a little worse at first. Get back to the build quick.

Only rested for the Saturday..

Went back to work on it on Sunday.....

Got the front cross bar over the dash and the rear cross bar, near the floor tacked in.

Drug induced comfort was wearing off quickly so that was all for the weekend.

I'm at work today and plan on disconnecting the connectors tonight to see how easy the cage will come out of the cab.

If I calculated correctly it should be a piece of cake.:dunno:

Ouch man! A couple of years ago I threw myself off my 4 wheeler and knocked myself out cold. Don't remember much from the rest of that day but I do wear a helmet EVERY time now... lesson learned.
Heal quickly bro.
 
Once I get the cab cage welded I'll start on the rear for mounting the tent

Bought the tent as a Demo from a former dealer of the product.
Cool piece and got a great price.

Funny thing is I won't let anyone ride without a helmet and I usually do to, but as I was about to put the quad away for the night I decided "this will only take a couple Min".....!!!???

As you said 'Lesson Learned"!

I was lucky it could have been much worse.

The nurse that sewed me back together said " I'm really sorry but this will definitely leave scars"....

My reply was " look at what you had to work with"...:whistle:

She had a good laugh!:haha:

My Brother has pics of the wound when it was wide open but I only have the after stitches pics.

I heard I made some of our guests ill..??:dunno:

Those tables are the greatest thing!

I Have a few of them in the shop.
Straight, flat, and they are made of cast iron so the weld spatter comes off easy.
