Wilson's 1986 k5 blazer build

Tell him I said hi.
You will be happy with the tranny he builds you.

Okay my dad dropped off the transmission today. After he was done talking to James he said he was pretty impressed over his knowledge of the transmission. I will be spending the extra money for him to do all of the upgrades that he recommended. The most valuable lesson I have learned on this build so far is to take my time and do it right! Well hopefully I will get the tranny back this weekend. I will have A lot of extra time this upcoming week to work on the truck! :D Hopefully have the tranny back in and everything ready for the motor to be stabbed or even have the motor in there! Time will tell!

I agree on the do it right.

Do it once, do it right. When you take short cuts, you end up doing the same thing multiple times wasting way more time and money :waytogo:

What he said. I'm contemplating redoing my lift... I was young and stupid and bought the cheapest one. It doesn't ride great, and it gets annoying to drive.

I think you are on the right track though.

Plans are getting this thing running right. Hopefully that will happen by the end of July so the truck can be down here with me in Austin:D after that it is all going to be getting the interior the way I want it. New seats, better bedliner for the cab, my subwoofer installed, redo headliner because of sag, and of course a diy4x dash:D After that it will be a while before anymore upgrades:rolleyes:

Update: Ordered spark plug wires, wire protectors, break in additive, flexplate turning tool, oil primer. Next weekend I am going to give it my best shot!

Stabbed the motor in today. Cant quite get the passenger side motor mount to line up, but it is sitting on there. Have not gotten the transmission back yet but that will be next. It should only be a couple more weekends till it runs, but it is hard to get down here to work on it so it may take a while. Hopefully some time in august ill be back on the road with it

It may be because the rubber in the motor mounts are wear out. You may need to change the out.

They are new from the last motor. Less than 200 miles on them. I think just a little more elbow grease and a pry bar will do it. We were only at it for 10 minutes

Okay potentially exciting update...Thursday is the last day of summer school and I will be spending a week back in dallas. A week that will be spent on the blazer! This truck will be running by the end of next week. I will also be trying to update some of the interior also! Plan is to atleast upgrade the seats to some of the newer chevy seats as many on here have done. I have a LOT of work to do: Install tranny, Install motor and accessories, tune and tweak motor, Upgrade interior, and finally get this thing back on the road! If this does happen I will bring the truck to austin where I will be able to work on it consistently so I can get it where I want to be.

Just got a call from James at JTT Transmissions, and we are all set and ready to go. Got a new pump, tv cable, corvette servo, extra clutches, new dipstick, and a few more upgrades. He said the transmission looked like someone went to their parts shelf and tried to throw everything they had available in there:doah: Well he said he got it all straightened out and for only $925. I am happy with this price and excited to go pick it up Sunday:woot: New motor and Tranny, I can't wait to HOPEFULLY hear this thing run soon!

I had 86 motor mounts and putting an older SBC. We had one of the sides in and it WOULD NOT line up. Used pry bars on it for a couple hours and tried putting the bolt in the other side first. Went to the autoparts store to see if the mount was any different for the 70's blazers and they were the same. Finally went back frustrated but I had the idea to lower the motor about an inch or two higher than the frame and drop a couple screwdrivers in each side to line up a hole from each side. Lowered the motor and it worked like a charm. We were atleast an inch off on the side without a bolt in...Owell after 8 hours we finally got it time to finish this! Today I am going to try to install the tranny wish me luck

Good luck.
Talked to James the other day. You should be happy with the tranny he built you.
Are you sure the rubber on your motor mounts is good. They do go flat over time. That could cause a line up problem.

Mounts were only used a couple of weeks so they should be...We are working on the side of the street which puts everything at an angle and makes it more difficult...Installing tranny today:waytogo: James offered to adjust it for me according to tires and everything once i get it running and over to his shop. Great guy and I am happy to have done business with him. Thanks for the recommendation!

Update, the tranny is bolted in but the transfer case isnt yet. Gettin real close for everything bolted in. After that is the fun part! Will post back in a couple days when I'm back on it...Advice on the transfer case would be appreciated
