WL: 1975 K5 (previously "Another new (to me) K5.")

You have no idea how jelly I am of that rusty pile of crap.

Drove it to Lincoln today for the Red White Game. Lost a glass pack on the way, that was a loud and obnoxious ride. Stopped at O'Reilly's and picked up a new one and some clamps and a hanger. It's so much quieter. I wish I had bought a second one for the right side now.

Burned around 12.5 gallons on the way. I was hoping for a little better fuel economy, but that was 45 miles on I80.

Not bad. The rear axle needs some work. I was thinking about swapping out the 3.08 geared Dana44/12bolt combo for a pair of 3.42 geared ten bolts that are under a parts Suburban I have, but I am not sure I want to go that deep with the crappy TH350 I have in there.

I'd much rather have the 3.42. You have 33s I think so I think that would actually help fuel mileage a least in town not lugging around so bad. Highway probably not. I'd take the slightly more torque over gas mileage any day though.

It has a 402, not a small block. It doesn't really lug that much.

Even with the big block I'd like the better gearing. 3.73 to 4.10 on mine made a huge difference. I don't drive above 60 mph though. 3.42 would be good mid gearing.

I was doing 75 on the Interstate. I'm not going to be towing with this thing.

I don't tow much either but with bigger tires than stock do what you want. The big block Probably don't matter as much as my 350 for gearing and power. I'm also going to run 37s. If you run 75 mph a lot leave the 3.08. The lower gears would hurt you more probably then. I don't run that fast with my 94 with overdrive. The 72 is pushing 3000 rpm at 60 with the 4.10. 37s will help but until the 35s are dead it works around town and from a stop has a lot more torque. So I'm not using as much gas on short trips. I'm not on the highway much anyway.

how is the ethanol treating your fuel system, have you replaced lines or anything?

if not should you? just don't use stainless, it will surely explode and kill you to death!

Just fine. I have ran ethanol in everything since I started driving. Never had a problem with it. Run it in my lawn mowers. We run it in an old tractor (Super M-T/A). We've ran nothing but ethanol in the old man's 1976 C65 for twenty plus years. It sits for months at a time, and fires right up as soon as you crank it.

.....but it did break my distributor cap.

The biggest problem with my fuel system is the fact that I never drained out the 25 year old gas that was in it. Just dumped some ethanol on top of it. So I have gotten some rust out of the system, but it was left open for 25 years.....

Pretty sure he is quoting another thread and is making a joke.

I'm debating removing the lift, and installing 2" lift blocks in the rear with a set of factory three pack springs with a 1" zero rate in the front. I have two 32x11.5x15" BFG All Terrains that are like new. Could buy two new ones, and run a set of four.

You know what I think. I want a stock blazer for country cruising.
