Work Truck Build : Now featuring a budget!

Well I'm at a loss now. Gauge pegs cold when full open and hot when wire is grounded. So the gauge is good, wire is good which I fixed anyway. Start the truck up and temp still sits stuck at 100. Not pegged cold, right at 100. I think I got a bad sender

So do you think it would help if the truck actually got warm? :haha: Had a POS old thermostat in it that Im assuming was very stuck open. Replaced it with a Quality 195* and suddenly I have actual good heat and a temp gauge thats trying to read with a twitch in it. Moved some spark plug wire from laying on top of the sensor wire and wahlah temp gauge all good. Runs at 195* all the time. City driving, pulling the welding trailer at 80mph down the highway.

Im very impressed by this truck for having 275k on it.

Hard at work :D :waytogo:

My temp gauge is still ****ting the bed occasionally when I come to a stop at a light. Normally comes back within like 20 seconds. Im assuming I need to trace the wire back further...

Is that trailer and ranger instead of the bobcat, or until the bobcat?

Until. Should be getting the bobcat after the long weekend.

That setup will go back to work for the underwater work when the season comes back.

Finally got around to something. Been doing a lot of work on the house in VA.

Got sick of being stuck in the house sick this week.

The skinny top section will have a third brake light in the center and backup/deck lights on the sides.

I built almost this whole thing the other day before I got sick and I guess I forgot how to build when Im not on a table and it got all racked out on me so I ditched it.

So I still dont have a bobcat. Moneys been tight dumping lumber and electrical into the house. I really wish they would finance, I would go out and buy a brand new bobcat 250 but they dont. Buddy was telling me they dont and pretty much never will. They want full payment up front because the machine is built to order...

Ive been shopping around and havent really seen any terrific deals. Most people are way overpriced for how used or old their machine is vs how much a new unit costs. I guess its just that mindset of "the buyer is going to make money with this, better get a lot for it". I did find a 900hr bobcat 225 thats only a few years old for $2000. Ive been hoping he would drop his price, its not too bad of a deal and a 225 is more than enough machine.

On another note I cracked all the body bolts loose to do the body lift tonight. Someone explain to me how this bolt came out with out breaking? I didnt know GM makes the body bolts in Ethiopia.

Well body lift is on. Ive still got to break the bolts free and get everything perfectly recentered but the truck looks good with the fenders not sitting right on the tires. Im going to try to get the fenders on, defanged and maybe start on a winch bumper for it. Why does my work truck need a winch? Who knows, but Ive got one sitting around doing nothing for 3 years now. Maybe I'll make an a-frame for lifting stuff.

Gotta make a junkyard trip monday for heavier rear springs, correct grill for the composite headlights, and a couple minor interior pieces.

Made really good progress on the back rack. Welded a 1/4in thick piece of strap to the back of the bed and then clamped the rack on in position and drilled pilot holes through both pieces. Then I pulled the rack off and drilled it out to 1/2in and tapped the strap so everything comes unbolted.

The truck looks way better with a backboard on it. I actually got 2/3rds of the bottom plated in and the upper left and right pieces filled with expanded steel but never snapped a picture.

Those shots are with it just clamped on.

I also noticed something odd about my body lift. The instructions said that the taller bushings going on the rad support but I cant help but feel like they should have went at the rear of the cab. Unless its just my eye the cab looks like the nose is too high and the back is too low now... :dunno:

Here the truck before I started this morning with just the back rack on. Its surprisingly stable despite no triangulation but it wont be like that tomorrow. :D

I went to work on the rear section of the racks today. Got them all done, welded, and painted but got to dark to snap a picture. I did get a shot of the mounts though. Same as the front these will be tapped for 1/2in bolts so the racks are removable. At this point Im not really sure why I made them removable lol. It would almost be simpler to just pull the whole bed rather than the racks if you need to work on the back of the cab. And honestly I think I could have done the back window even with the rack on...
