BTW, I think I just sent you a friend request. God I hope so. If I just friend requested someone else with a vent hose, shoot me now......
Fordum however appears nowhere in the request, so you won't recognize the name.

There are a LOT of folks on there with your name. One of the first ones to come up is in Iraq.......But, I don't think its you.

Yep, I got the friend request. No worries man.

My profile is tough to miss with that picture as my profile pic. :haha::haha:

Yep, kinda distinctive.
One of these days, I'm gonna actually post some stuff up there.

I'm not into the old, look-at-me, kind of stuff.

I don't mind telling stories on myself or friends, but when it comes to posting pictures, or identifiable details.....I just was not brought up that way.

Besides, while I have never committed a felony, or even anything that might get me locked up....for long.......

I sometimes wonder if the statute of limitations has run out on the little things.
Like dumping a damaged coffin, complete with manikin, out of a speeding hearse as it goes around a sharp corner in a residential neighborhood.
While lots of old ladies were out watering their gardens.........

So ya see now Joe.... that there is whatcha call...... MEGA awesome. not just yer everyday run of the mill awesome. but MEGA awesome.

Actually, I had thought about some simple lightening bolts of some kind, somewhere. Along with "ZEUS" vanity plates. I'm not into something as crazy as a mural, or huge painting. I think the lightening bolts would be just right, just subtle enough to get the point across.

Lightning bolts on a red truck would look a little too much like Lightning McQueen's big brother from the Pixar movie Cars. Ka Chow!! :smirk:

And I love the truck BTW. Is the paint dead or will it buff out?

IF I were to do any kind of lightning bolt, it would be very small and only one or two. Maybe a small on the corner of the tailgate and maybe another small one on one of the front fenders. Nothing big enough to stretch across both doors or extend across the hood. Yuck.

As far as the paint goes, I have no idea what constitutes "dead" paint.. The paint on the hood is faded to the point where it's almost white in some sections. So I'm guessing that just buffing it out is a no-go.

I've always considered paint "dead" when you wipe your hand on an area and you get color on it. Once it oxidizes to that point, trying to buff it out is useless.

Joe,

Let me know if you ever want to have this thread moved over to the Build Thread section..... it seems like a really good candidate for that forum. :waytogo:

My personal vote is no.
I don't have a good reason, but since they created the build section, I don't think I have visited it once.

I'm more of a problem solving guy.
I have done builds, my 250 being a big example, but mostly the two times I like hearing about a build is when they have trouble and I can help them figure it out.

And when its finished.

Then I can admire the work, and hear how they did it.

Normally clicking on something and reading that they bolted on this, or welded on that, leaves me bored.

Joe's build is different. I have been looking forward to this ever since I "met" him in Iraq.

I have been pulling for him to get home OK and get that build done.
And every time he does something, it makes me almost as happy as it does him.

If you move the thread, I will still follow it, it just will be one more forum I have to click on.
Not a big problem, just a minor inconvenience.

Looks like to me, in the photos, that the paint has pretty much done it's service and is ready to retire. I remember buffing my green K5 out once, it came out nice, but the paint quickly re-oxidized. Like said above, if you get red fingertips from touching a panel, it's ran it's course.

How soon do you plan to paint? I don't know how far north you are but I could get you a decent deal on a paint job here.

I got a little bit done today. Nothin major, but it needed to be done. I bought this bad ass battery tray for my Odyssey PC1750 from a vendor on Pirate-

http://artecindustries.3dcartstores.com/Odyssey-PC-1750-Battery-Mount-_p_121.html

Today was 'fab a battery tray mount' day.

I'll let the pictures tell the story.

This is what I started out with. As you can see, the Odyssey is waaay bigger than the stock battery tray-

Stock tray-
101.jpg

The idea was to make this fit in the stock spot-
102.jpg

I decided to use the bottom half of the stock tray-
103.jpg

So the top half needed to be removed. Had to drill out the spot welds-
104.jpg

106.jpg

107.jpg

Here's the bottom half mocked up in the truck-
108.jpg

I cut a piece of 1/8" plate to match the bottom of the Artec tray-
109.jpg

Drilled holes and welded nuts to the bottom side-
111.jpg

Then welded the plate to the bottom half of the stock bracket. No pictures of that.

Rather than try to re-invent the wheel trying to come up with a way to tie the tray into the fender mounts, I decided to re-use the the appropriate pieces of the stock tray-
112.jpg

Rough mock up. Tacked brackets to tray. It took a small amount of grinding/cutting/fitting of the brackets to make them work-
113.jpg

Fully welded, fitted, ground and de-burred-
115.jpg

Painted and bolted in place-
116.jpg

Finished product. The Artec tray is bolted to the me-built tray with counter-sunk allen bolts-
120.jpg

And the 140amp Power Master alt in place and working-

And this is my co-pilot, Bo-

Looks good. I think you will like that battery. Its the same brand I have in my truck.
I have the next smaller size so it fits my tray.
It puts out some serious amps.
I replaced an Optima that I thought was in good shape with it, and found out my starter was good after all.:D

I had thought it was dragging and needed replacing.

Another small project today.

I picked up a couple of these 5 post junction blocks at the junk yard the other day. From the passenger side firewall on the '92-'98 body style gm trucks.

I wanted something similar to the original two post junction block on the firewall, but with more posts for future accessories and a cleaner look. Having a big fuster cluck of wires hangin off the battery looks ghetto as hell. Since these were just junction blocks and the terminals weren't bridged, I cut and drilled a piece of copper to bridge all the terminals together. Then 10 jam nuts- 5 to bolt the copper bridge down and 5 more for bolting stuff down. Juiced it up with a length of 6g wire from the battery with crimped and soldered terminals, along with heat shrink tubing to seal it up.

I'm going to eliminate the stock 2 post junction block and wire everything to the new one. As you can see, the stock one is lookin slightly hammered. :eek1:

Tomorrow morning a buddy and I will be tearing into the truck to get the Alcans and DIY flip installed. So if all goes well, expect some new pictures tomorrow night. :D

That's a great idea! I'm going to keep that in mind next time I'm at the junkyard. Looks very nice!!

Two things. One, I hope that that hot wire is not as close to the mounting bolt as it seems in the pic.
Two, check out the last pic in post 17 of my "What Truck is This? thread here in the garage.
It looks a lot like your setup with a cover.

Of course yours probably came with a cover too you just left it off for the pics.

lol! I wondered who was gonna be the first to say something about that....It's not even close, the picture does make it look like it's touching. The hot wire is atleast a 1/2" from the mounting bolt. I'll go take another picture in a few minutes.

And no, they didn't come with covers. What you see in the pics is exactly how I unbolted them from the trucks in the yard.

Man, you should have known the electronics guy would jump on that like a chicken on a Junebug.

I would have done it sooner, but my local cellular provider decided to take the tower offline for maintenance just as I was typing the post.

As soon as I lost the connection, I checked my cell phone, and it had no signal.

Poor guy.
He was just minding his own business, way the heck out in the woods at midnight, when a wild eyed fool stepped in and wanted to know when his internet was going to be back up.

Scared the cra*p out of him<G>.

He told me it would not be long.

Sure enough, by the time I drove back home it was up.......

Kinda feel bad about that. Poor guy was still shaking when I left.......

Pop the hood on a couple of newer trucks. I think they have what you are looking for with a protective hood.

i just read up on that battery....wow. i'm going to be redoing a lot of my electrical system and i haven't really started my research yet. i was gonna go with duals, but maybe i don't need to now. i'm seriously looking at the Premier Power setup and i'll have a winch too..that thing must be heavy though.

I just went out and looked at how close that hot wire is to the mounting bolt. It was more like 1/4" and on a slightly higher plane-

002.jpg

But after poking and prodding at it a for bit, I decided I didn't like it. So I switched it around-

005.jpg

It doesn't look as clean, but definitely a LOT safer. Also, the terminal end fits perfectly between the two little plastic tits on the block.

Yeah, bad ass battery. $299 shipped from Summit. And yes, it is ridiculously heavy. 60lbs. :eek1:

They did make that junction block with a cover. I have one out in the shed.

Look on the S10's and S10 Blazer's. Mine come a 95 Blazer when I put a V-8 into it. Just food for thought.
