And another coat of primer for 360 tomorrow...

Ryoken, I usually go to 400 for finish sanding, this primer (Nason Ful fil acrylic) says 320...seems like some scratches may be seen...think 360 will be ok, or should I go to 400?

you finally get pics up with primer and I have to be at work:doah: Cant wait to get home so I can see the progress

Looks real good dave! Why not do the 400? Dont see what it would hurt.
Seen his girl...and his jeans.:whistle::haha:

320's a bit course for base/clear, but not undoable.. just make sure you have plenty of coats on and no sandscratches are showing thru.. 360 should be fine...

It might be for adhesion I'm thinking...this primer may require a coarser grit to mechanically adhere, where others I believe will chemically adhere (using 400 or finer grit) :dunno:

all grit is a function of adhesion... basically you want to go as course as you can, yet have the new coat fill/cover the sandscratches... colors like silver are where that'll usually show up, if at all....

as long as your not seeing scratches in the base, when ya clear, your fine... the old days of lacquer products, nitrostain, etc, stuff that shrank a bunch, it was an issue... the urethanes are vastly better with shrinkage, etc...

Cool, I have 360 and 400 on hand, I'd have to go look for some 320..
I'm thinking it will have plenty of coats; what with the base, then the intercoat for pearl, then the clear...maybe 8-12 altogether?

Do you think there would be any issues with doing a metallic base, then the intercoat pearl, then clear?

Thanks Paul!

3 stages can vary greatly in coats... from as little as 5 or 6 in base to upwards of 8 to 10.. than whatever clear ya wanna run... usually 3 to 5 coatas..

just be careful on 3 stages with metallic base, makes sure the last coat prior to pearl has layed the metallics out well, and is not dry... perfect app for a blue basecoat tackrag...

Wow, this is going to build up like a mofo...I'll have to put on my "young eyes" to see where I'm running my tape line at..:eek1:

oh, you certainly don't need/want to put a ton on nescessarily.. if the base is good in 3.... 2 or 3 pearls, and clear... that's fine too, whatever covers properly and your happy with....

right, I figured the base would cover in 2, then give it a 3rd for good measure, then 2-4 pearls (yet to be decided by experimentation of coverage and effect) then tape up for the secondary color, do the same there, put on a couple decals then the clear overall.

you'll want at least the 3rd base, just to ensure your "showing" metallics are layed nice.. where your not concentrating on coverage, but that...

and remember, most often less is better when it comes to pearl.. relatively subtle is usually the best route or sh*t can get freaky.. :pimp:

sounds good Paul, didn't realize that about metallics....and the pearl, I've read that as well, go on the conservative side!
thx mang!

zero'd in, but not bought em yet...

final coats of primer on today, one more wet sand tomorrow, then on to sealer and paint. I'm going to make up some stands to bolt each part to for optimum spraying...Gotta figure out how to mount each piece so I can spray them as they will sit on the bike, but not interfere with coverage. I have to get some wood and make them up, probably do that Sunday and I want to take a panel and do some test patches on it for the pearl powder, so still have to set up for that too. Will try to get the paint booth ready on Monday, then do some testing midweek.
