VVT?

Babaganoosh and I were texting. I think one of those plugs is for the coolant temp, which I forgot. Maybe a crank sensor or something too. Dunno. That long one has a few plugs :( My stock oil pan had a sensor in it. My replacement pan does not, but I don't think I have that plug in the harness anymore.

Seems the two in the back are oil psi and cam position sensor.

does that sound right?
 
I'm worried about the oil sensor now.

The gauges I'm using are from Dakota Digital and they come with a box that reads the OBD2 port. The only thing that doesn't transfer data is the oil pressure sensor and of course fuel level. So the psi sensor was replaced with a DD unit which will have stand alone info going to the gauges. But now, the computer wont see any pressure, or does it bypass the computer and go straight to the factory gauges?

And here are the wires I'm not sure about.

This first one is down the driver side. 3 plugs total. One is for the O2 sensor, one of the purple ones is for the oil pressure I believe, but I don't know what the other purple one is for. The picture shows their length, pretty much stopping behind the head.




i forget for certain now but i think the oil pressure sending unit, coolant temp sensor, and IAC all share the same kind of plug and can plug into each other. The other one you have there looks like either the knock sensor plug or the cam sensor plug.

Second one is passenger side.
2 plugs run down this side. One of them is O2 sensor again and the other is actually a ground ring. (you can kinda see it center of picture) Does anyone know where this was ground? Just any ol' place sound good?

Any old place is good.





Third is a tail coming off the main trunk of the harness. It has 3 weather pack connectors and a grounding ring. I haven't a clue where they go or what direction they go in. I was under the impression, when I disconnected everything, that the harness would be labeled after the modifications were done. I read it would be, but I'm guessing now that was only for the actually modification. :doah:

Looks like crank sensor (behind the starter), oil level sensor (the all grey one) and then maybe knock sensor?

I also think thats the starter heat sheild.



Hopefully that helps? At certain points in my build i went to the wiring diagram to try and figure out what the connectors were. These two links should help.

99% of tunes dont bother with having the computer read the oil pressure. Most harnesses dont have the oil pressure sensor connector still in them.
 
VVT is Variable Valve Timing. I dont think you have a VVT motor. They are something like 08 and newer?
 
Also, that Tail, i believe from the factory goes down behind the power steering pump, under the oil pan behind the crank pully, and then back towards the starter.

Truck wiring harness, gauges set up to work with OBD reader, fuel filler in bed, electric fan relays, new battery location, have the exhaust done w/O2 bungs, and all the little things still to go before I can ever turn the key. Feels like I'm closing in. Once it's running, I can start on the Old Air Products AC unit install. I already have all of this, I just need 5 more things. Time, courage, patience, continued enthusiasm, and time. :D

IIRC oil PSI went straight to the gauge and had no pertinence with the computer. The computer only sees the on off emergency oil switch. The actual pressure switch doesnt give input into the computer. When I was asking around about what I needed I was told the computer couldnt care less if the factory oil pressure sensor is there.
 
That is a load off my mind!! Good then, should be fairly straight forward from here on out.

Where is the emergency switch though? I didn't see that in the diagrams.
 
Boy howdy
Stopped by a couple hot rod shops that do a lot of LS swaps. Was quoted around $5k to finish the truck, in running order. Damn, was really hoping to push this off on someone so I could go to work, maybe do some overtime, and have it done and on it's way to reliable within the next couple months. Ugh, I don't have that kind of cash. $3500 maybe, but 5grand is steep.


So moving on.

JB Welded the 90* exhaust pipe to my filler cap. Super secure. Then somehow managed to drill and tap the stainless. Boy that was a chore, I'm happy nothing broke. The fitting is for the tank vent. I don't want burping while I'm trying to fill the tank. I'll take the extra measure now so I'm not swearing at the pump later.

Also made a big hole in the brand new bed floor lol. Well, about a 3.5" hole in the corner. That is where the filler pipe will go through and attach to the gas tank via flexible gasoline hose. Working on the box that will hold the filler cap itself.





 
Won't gasoline eat JB weld?

hope not, I've never seen it break down with anything else. :dunno:
but really, it's only on the outside. I expanded the exhaust pipe a little, wedged the filler inside and put two coats of JB around the seam. Holds damn strong so far and it shouldn't see gas unless I spill or overfill (actually if I spill it wont get past the filler base)
 
supposedly it wont..... but my dad and me JBwelded some holes in an old cast aluminum chainsaw gas tank and it never did seal up.... may have been our prep work, but we thought we cleaned it well :dunno: I know others who have used it on bike tanks and say it is fine..?
 
JB weld is a two part so it shouldnt be fuel soluble. Ive heard of plenty of guys using it on fuel tank senders etc. If you're really worried get some marine-tex. Its probably the most wicked 2 part epoxy known to man.
 
Good progress but slow progress. I feel like it's at a turtle's pace. :doah:


Got the mounts done for the ECM.
Pulled the extra wires out of the harness, just so there's less wires to deal with.
Finally bolted my inner fenders in, they had just been sitting in there.
And worked on my fuel filler box. It just needs some mounting tabs, rivnut/nutsert the fender, round piece to cover hole, some clean up, and it's done. I love it. Once the bed is LineX'ed, it will blend right in. (after body work and paint :doah:)
