1976 C-10 Stepside Shortbox - Beagle's Build

Changed my thermostat housing so I could run the sensor for the fan controller in the housing instead of the manifold. I did that after I was done. like a idiot. hadn't cleaned up my mess yet.

Fixed the grill problem.IMG_20160818_194355238.jpgIMG_20160818_194408426.jpg

Also a few might know that in '76 the headlight bezels were black around the headlights.
This truck had a stupid plastic bezel on the passenger side. It also was silver.
The first pics in the build thread would reflect this.
I picked a up one from the yard last summer to replace it. Of course the driver side was all faded out. I repainted
Them the same flat black I used for the tailgate and the bowtie in the bed.

I also added a 80's 4 inch 4wd front air damn. It doesn't quite fit as well as I would have liked due to the the 70's bumper having a lower license plate mold. That made it kind of bow out right in the center.
Kind of makes it looks like an old train pilot.

Overall, I'm ok with it. At least not enough to bother with it right now.

Lastly the grill is a 73-74 for those that might not know offhand.

Thanks. I doubt enough people like this for a calendar candidate though.

Honestly these updates are peanuts right now. I have a couple neat things planned for the future. Although the beetle kill bed probably was the best one....

A on another note it definitely has more scoot to it with the manifold. But I have a vacuum leak at the carb gasket I need to fix.

@max 02 you want that steering wheel? I might finally get around to that this weekend...

I thought black around the head lamps was more of a trim level thing, than a year thing.

I won't say your wrong. All I know is that I tryed to research the best I could and could only find that they were black in 76. I didn't find anything that indicated a trim specific option.

They were painted black on 1973 models with Custom (base) trim level.

This appears to be a higher trim level, and has black bezels in 1973, but the GM brochures are not always right with the pictures, as they often times doctored their photos and reused them from year to year.

Especially as this looks to be the exact same truck, from the same brochure, a couple pages later.

I thought it was from 73-76 then in 77 they went silver. I know the driver side was black. But since I didn't own this truck for the first 38-1/2 years of its life. Idk.

I always assumed it was a trim level thing, but I am starting to think it was just a year thing (I know later model "Sport" trucks also had black bezels). It appears it was only in 1973-1974.

Did some more reading and it seems to be that 73-74 were black and the rest of the years were silver except the sport models....
But alot of conflicting info. So I am not certain.
Either way I like the black, and it matches the 73-74 grill.
Plus it's not like I am doing a restoration anyway. Just building what I like.

The reality is that I just don't have much time in my life for 350s any more. Life's to short to drive little engines.
While I am sure I'll own another 350 powered something. I don't look forward to it. I haven't drove it yet. I finished up the intake Sunday evening and I have been working on a few other things so it's not drivable yet. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.

Why bother working on the 350, then? Big block FTW!

That was kind of the point I was making about swapping intakes... it took me 9 months to decide if spending 8.99 on a intake manifold gasket kit was worth it....
