1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Oh Yea. The clear would just be something to get me by until next summer. I'll probably just follow through with the real paint job. But it is interesting how much better it looks with just quick spray of some old rattle can clear.

I just think there are too many imperfections in the paint to make it worth the trouble of buffing. By imperfections I mean rust mostly. And cracks in the paint. I'm pretty sure I'll just go ahead and follow through with getting the paint done and out of the way asap.

I think you would be pleasantly surprised by what a good buff would do.

Dangerous words... :doah:

Check out my build thread, might as well went from a cheap paint job and no body work to lots of body work and a decent paint job :haha:

Atleast there's decent paint to deal with in this case.....I had crappy parts store duplicolor junk to deal with.

No I'm good. I'm just going to do the real paint job. The thought of getting around it to other stuff is a nice idea, but the fact is I have pretty much already penciled in the time, money, energy, etc to just go ahead and get it done between now and Halloween. I think it's perfectly doable, so why not just stick with it. Once the paint is done, everything else will be easy and I won't feel like I have a paint project looming over my head.

Now, all that said, I do have a pre paint plan. And if it fails, I'll be skipping paint. Immediately after the 4th I'll be painting the hood, tail gate, and the back side of the new door. If that all goes well and turns out with any type of good looks, I'll move on to painting the whole truck. If it turns out worse than imaginable, I'll put the hood and tail gate back on and forget about paint until I have the money to drop it off somewhere and just work on other stuff in the mean time.

My observation from having one nicely-painted truck is that as soon as it got painted I became more hesitant to do mechanical work on it ('cause I didn't wanna scratch up the new paint job). My crummier paint jobs do not have this problem. So I have decided that I want to do painting last on future builds.

If you are concerned with the aesthetics of the truck, you might find yourself in a similar predicament. :dunno:

How I have I missed this thread. I try to keep up with all the crew cab builds. Looking forward to seeing this one at Blazer Bash... :waytogo:

Do me a huge favor and just have it buffed. It is not like you can't paint it after it's been buffed.

That takes up precious painting time! And I'm not too concerned about being scared of it after paint. I know that trucks are trucks. My brand new $35k truck has plenty of scratches and brush stripes on it. When I Park it or the freshly painted burb at the grocery store, I Park wherever I feel like it. Only open spot next to the shopping cart return? Who cares? The thing is going to get scratched and dinged anyway. It's an overall thing. It needs to look nice over all.

I'm in touch with reality. I like my stuff to look nice, without having to give too much of a **** about it. Again using the new truck and the freshly painted burb as examples, I'll set my beer on the hood, I'll lean up against it, I'll haul ass on the gravel roads, I'll drive them through the brush, and then I'll wash them and be happy.

Thanks Larry! I'm dieing to put an 8.1 in it! We'll see. Going to look at a '07 6.0 for cheap next weekend. If it looks good, I'll pick it up and cruise with it!
