1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

Those look good. I'd like to get my windows tinted. I didn't know there was a "factory" tint.

Yep. It's cool too cause those are 3 piece units. There is a layer of tint sandwiched between two sheets of glass. So it's not like the factory just added a film of tint. The glass manufacturer did it. It's really nice because I have had the outer glass get cracked and the inner glass stay in tact.

On a side note, I have been doing such a wildly insane amount of research on painting that my head hurts... Sure is expensive! Looks like for the cheap route I'll be into it around $750 for paint, primer, hardener, clear, and reducer. The more expensive route is around $1300!

What paint route are you taking again?

I'm doing single stage urethane i bought from Summit.

Gallon of Blue, Gallon of White, Hardener, Reducer, and a can of wax and grease remover all came to about $300.

Now I have something else to keep an eye out for I the junkyard. How do I spot it?

Look for windows. With tint.

Sorry, couldn't resist. It is inside the glass, if the tint is a film that you can touch, it is aftermarket.

This is the best I could do for a picture. But you can see there are two pieces of glass separated by a sheet of tint.

I'll be doing base/clear. I'm as of yet unsure what brand or brands I'll be going with. I really like the sounds of the stuff from southern polyurethane. But they don't offer a base coat. I had been planning on doing the omni line from ppg but I don't really read great things. I have been leaning towards a brand called Wanda now. The omni was $167 a gallon from my local place. If I can get something better for around $250 a gallon I would go for that. The complete omni system from primer to clear with all the juices was right at $700 from the local place. I'm still going to look around and price out some other brands.

Ah, got it. Well, Summit Racing has two stage systems too, but I'm probably way under the quality level you are seeking. I'm just trying to get some color where there currently is none, or not much. :D

My bug thing is I need it made to the original paint code of the truck. But the summit stuff actually sounds good.

That is laminated safety glass and the color is not also in the middle. You can also find tempered safety glass with tinted color. And a good high performance tint will out preform factory tint for heat rejection and uv protection.

I always just assumed the tint was in the laminated portion. It's certainly not on the glass in a place where you can touch it. I just like the factory stuff.
