1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

No big deal to me! I like the 396! I just know that in the end it will get something modern so im keeping my eyes open for good deals!

Side note, what i want for the future!

I think that for the direction you're going with this build a "factory" looking tbi setup on the 396 would be perfect.

It's something that I have thought about. The trouble is I really don't want to deal with burning chips to get it to run right, and I have a tough time spending the extra money on a fancy ecm just to run tbi and be into it for as much as an 8.1 would have cost.

After the 4th the fun begins! I have to do a couple things in preparation for this to start tho so really I will officially starting working on the truck like the last weekend of July. Either way, it will be tons of fun!

An EBL Flash programmable ECM for a TBI is only $400. Way way less than any part of an 8.1. I recently got one for my TBI and will be getting one for a 383TPI as well. It has been fun and easy to work on.
You can burn in a new program in seconds and it has a VE Learn function which has been pretty handy.
So don't rule out a 396TBI. It wouldn't be that hard or expensive.

But that's just the computer tight? After a harness, sensors, throttle body, throttle body adapter, etc, I'll be around a grand pretty easy and have a decent about of effort involved. I'm not against it, I think it would be super cool! But at a certain point it becomes only 25% more money and effort to get a completely modern package that is superior in every way and arguably more reliable.

Junkyard parts? You are going to use junkyard parts for a GEN III sbc or 8.1............

Yea we'll see. It's just hard to get excited about something that will likely take a ton of time and a good bit of money to get it to run right.

Well I leave today for my 4th of July trip. A guy who lives up where we're going in eastern Oregon has at least a few Dana 60s and I know he's on hard times financially so I'm hoping to get one of his 60s for a good deal. Wish me luck!
