1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

I'll keep my eyes peeled then. I think a step above stock cam, carb rebuild and tune, distributor rebuild and tune, manifolds, and an intake should leave me satisfied with the 396 for some time to come and possibly forever.
 
Make sure it is for a Quadrajet.

Also check to see if the ports are for peanut port heads, or standard oval ports.

I got a quad performer if your interested. I had it on my 461 with 781's for a short while...its ported to the big oval shape ports now (not shown in this pic as it was done after I bought it) 100$ + shipping

Center is the intake, the 781 heads on the left and the peanut ports on the right....the manifold was opened up to match the 781 ports after this pic was taken.

I know you are budget minded, but roller cam my brother, think roller cam.
 
Lololol! Roller cam! Lol! I would have to be made of money to consider a roller cam in an old motor! Roller cam kits are around $700 for these motors. At that point I'm half way to a modern engine.

Bagh. Well then, I think I'll carefully stick to plan A for now. That's the small cam, carb and dist rebuild, and intake. And run that until I get a good deal on either a 8.1 or 6.0.
