I say all things considered because not everything went ok...
My dad's 2013 F-150 went into full blown failsafe/limp mode on Saturday. It wouldn't do anymore than about 8 mph, and threw the famous ford "yellow wrench" on the dash display along with the check engine light...
This happened on our way back from Fairplay (we forgot worms). We limped it the 10 or so miles back to camp, and then jumped in my truck. Napa in Fairplay was still open, and we needed a code reader. Turns out that the Drive By Wire freaked out. It threw a P2112, which is Throttle Actuator Stuck Closed.
After reading a little on an ecoboost forum >puke<, turns out it is a fairly common problem, and most likely would require a new throttle body.
Well being Saturday afternoon, and nowhere near a Ford dealer, I sent my wife and my mother back to Napa in Fairplay. They were sent for some Torx bits, QD electronic parts cleaner, and throttle body cleaner. While they were doing that, I pulled the throttle body off the 3.5L. It took wifey and mom about an hour on the round trip, so while we waited I had a beer, and tried game planning with Dad on how to get his truck and camper back if I couldn't miracle a fix...
Once my supplies arrived, I tried opening up the throttle blade actuator motor thingy, but ford strikes again! 4 of the little bolts holding the cover on were torx, but one was a 5 point tamper proof style. I was still able to pry it up and stick the spray straw from the QD cleaner under the lid, barely. I just started spraying the stuff in there, shook it around and sprayed some more, then cycled the throttle plate a few times, sprayed more..
I was thinking to myself that this was a futile effort, but we really had no other choice, except have it towed out, so we put it back together.
I told my dad to drive it up the road, and if I didn't see him back in a few minutes that I would come look for him.
Well he took off fine and was headed outta sight.several minutes went by, and I was headed for my truck, when suddenly he came haulin arse down the road, waved and then kept going.
When he finally came back, he said it performed as well as it ever had before, no lights, no warnings on the dash...
So Victory!!
