1979 K30 Pile of Hillbilly Crap.

nice truck man, The hinged on the bed are a smart idea.

My Lpg guy bitches when I make him fill it, figured since there was really on box left it would be fine. I will make getting the spare etc much easier. Plus now I can jack right on the frame.

Pretty mild
1996 vortec 454 short block, flattops 100k bearings/cylinders look great.
781 heads rebuilt with ss valves and better springs (don't remember the specs)
Stock non egr low rise intake
8.1ish to one compression

Mercruiser cam specs:
GM#12551622
.004 300*/ 300*
.006 288*/288*
.050” 225*/225*
.200” 125*/125*
Lift .483”/. 483”
ICL 109*
ECL 122*
LSA 115.5*

Was going to use the stock cam but decided since I had it why not try this one. The old 454 on lpg made about 30 less horsepower and torque than what is in my sig on LPG. Once this one is in I will tell the old 454 on gas vs. old 454 on lpg vs. this motor on lpg.

May change the intake after the spring swap meet if I find a cheap one. The rpms will be out at about 4500 (used to be done at 3950) so no need for anything more than a performer. Seriously wonder if there will be any gain at that low of an rpm. Someday I may buy a dual quad intake and use to 425s if I can ever find one cheap. A impco 425 flows about 460 cfm so that is the limit of the engine.

Old 454 was basically a stock L19 which is, 236 heads (peanut ports) flattop (8.1) 454 with the addition of a 204/214 .495/.510 lift cam, headers and a weiand street warrior peanut port intake. Ran real good with the qjet and later with a turbo on lpg. A few too many times at 14psi and over 1400egt hurt it some. It gets 260 degs on the highway and looses oil pressure (like 15 or less). I think it may have a bad head gasket now, I will sell it to my machinest for a irrigation motor. The new motor is what I have laying around or can get given too me or cheap.

I go to school from 8-3:30 and get to play a few days a week from 3:30 to 5:30 at a local shop. My truck is there but I still need to pull out the old engine. Mostly plug and play with the exception that I need to figure out the timed vac port on the holley baseplate to q jet adapter part of my 425 so it will function. I assume is needs a hole in the gasket. Because of the low compression the timing advance at highway speed needs to be more to prevent excessive lpg from burning in the exhaust. Part of what killed the last motor. I plan on running it at 60 mph constant while tuning it on the dyno after finding max hp and tq. Also I have high steer, hydraulic assist and a hydraulic clutch going in at the same time. Lots to get done by the holiday.

I think it looks great :waytogo: as much as I can't wait to finish my K5, my K30 beater is a lot more "fun" to work on. Not concerned with being pretty, just want tough and functional :D

Bump stops.... lots of people are using the Timbrens which look sweet, I'm just lowering the stockers in the name of budget.

Did you thin your rear spring packs any ? Mine look to be the same as yours and just wondering how they work for you.

Yup timbrens 130 shipped for all 4 corners.

Yeah you are definitely more short on traction currently, than you are on power. I would also recommend you look for a hydraulic clutch setup.
