whew...

whew it was soo nice today! didnt get much pics since my hand was too greasy to use the camera. a friend took 1 of me driving the loader and i took one of my friend yanking the engine out. thats it. well i got the rears here. its sitting on a jack stand now. needs new drums so ill put on new brakes, everything and drums before its on the truck. i might have a problems with the drive shaft fitment. not sure. length is good. but the size of universal joint are completely different and my transfer case and the other transfer case is different. cant use the yoke. any help??? mines smaller size. 3/4 ton bigger size.. help!!!

yeah 1/2 tons use s44's but axles like the 14ff use 1350's...

You can get conversion joints or you can just have a 1350 shaft cut with the right slip yoke for the transfer case and the right ears for the 1350 joint on the rear end...

take the yoke from the axle end of the old driveshaft and the yoke from the t-case end to a driveshaft shop with the length you need. they will make you whatever you want. thats how I had mine done. PM me if you need more details. Or you could call me.

thanks for the info.. no work to do on the truck today. but will re arrange everything to make everything a bit easier to find. and maybe take front bumper off.. cant do anything tomorrow either.. out of town for the day to help my finacees parent move. sunday.. might do something.. suprises.. anyhow before i head out the door, i want to say something about my dang dog! top one thinks alot like a cat! look how she sits! her name is foxy. the one sitting on the couch is my ol dog. trotter, trotter's abt 5 yrs old, foxy is abt a year and a half yrs old. added a pix.. here ya go! see my 80 gmc?? foxys looking AT HER! rearranged everything.. ahh now its alot easier to work. took axles out of truck. man it was heavy with out the engine jack! and no one helped me.. whew.. pics here...

i just got done putting a axle in a truck tonight..at least you have dollies...i use 2 floor jacks by myself and it preety tough especially when you hit a rock..

tell me about it.. u see my driveway? well when im ready to put the axles in, i have no where else to do it.. except my dads garage but im not gonna take it there since hes currently working on his furd.. bronco 2. hes been thinkin abt 4 inch lift on it.. so i got to do mine here. damn all sharp rocks have to drag everything around.. myself. some peeps might help me out but i dont know their schedule so i got to wait..

i think its a govlock.. thats ok for now. as long im careful with it.. shouldnt give me any problems. can i put in open carrier in if i find one? etc.. to double check what gear ratio i have? the number is
2 GL 3977334 10 41 1 75 so it was made in jan of 1975 and gl is gov lock. 10 41 is 4.1? as in 4.11?? let me know. thanks

really no difference between 4.10 and 4.11. Essentailly the same ratio...

As for the gov-bomb, I have no idea what one looks like in 14bff but I have heard that they only really suck in 10bolts and are fine in a 14bff.

3 crosspins it's a gov-loc and a free locker to you. 4 pins and its open. spend the money on a detroit.

It doesn't look like Road Kill will be ready for the 20th, but I have to try. So next week if you need help, just let me know, I'll stop by after work.

The road trip was great! My back really hurts from all the drivin. If the R.K. is not done for Sunday, I'll prob. put disc's on the back. I think the one drum is frozen up.

detroit are in my future plan! will need some help installing it tho.. have never done rears in my life before, just change the axle is gears or shaft breaks.. call me lazy but now i wanna build it..

The 14 bolt detroit is easy. when looking at the diff, there are holes where you can see into the carrier. If there are 3 hole its a gov lock, 4 and its open. 10 41 = 4.10 10 teeth on the pinion, 41 on the ring gear. 41/10= 4.10

If you need an open carrier i have one, with a 4.10 ring gear on it already. All youd have to do is throw in a detroit, which is super easy.
