6" lift. 3/4 ton axles.
Yeah that was a change they made I think late 16/17. But if they felt it was a change worth making I’m going to use it.

So I’m working on figuring out the issue with my handheld I used a car charger from the cigarette plug into the bottom of the controller and tried to use the data plug into the controller.

I can get it to power up with the usb, but still won’t talk to the ecu.

I’m stsrting to think harness between the tbi and the controller has a short or something.

What should base timing be at idle on sbc? I feel like I asked this before but dot remember the consensus. I’m not great at timing but want to try and set t up for success at least for basic timing.

2* + 2* for every 1000’ elevation

So 10-15* lead

Need some help with timing. It’s just one of things that I’ve never really “got”.
Looking at the cap, I feel like this is wrong. Maybe a couple teeth off?

Another problem is no matter what I do the timing mark is way off from the flash so I’m kinda running blind. I pulled the plug to see if I can confirm where tdc is but the wife came home so errands were to be run.

1. Does it start, or was it running with the FI?

2. Is the FITech controlling the timing or is the HEI on its own?

Find TDC, pull the cap and make sure the rotor is pointed to #1 (just before). Double check your firing order too.

No timing control

It will start up and run on the fitech. I know there is a timing issue cuz if I pop the throttle I get a backfire up thru the tbi.

When you use it on hei there’s no timing control.

What he said, just make sure you are on 1 not 6
If you’re not sure, it’s easier to pull the valve cover, in my opinion

I know the firing order is correct cuz I checked that.

To find tdc should I just turn the engine til it’s on the mark and see which plug it’s pointing at, or check and see where it’s at when #1 pushes my finger off the hole

Had to ask because I’ve seen some get rewired to run on timing control.

But let’s get back to tdc.

You can do the compression method. If that doesn’t work, My tried and true is watching the rockers and going to tdc.

Ill start with turning it to the timing mark and seeing what the cap says. Play with it tomorro after work

Another dumb question.

I got a starter bump button awhile back. How do I hook it up? Never used one before.

Should be just a normally open switch. One side to the battery in on the starter, the other to the solenoid trigger on the starter

Then when you bump the button, it’ll bump the starter.

Just make sure it’s blocked and locked in gear and clear of the fan.
Don’t need no 6 toes running around Ck5

So finally had some time to play with this. Realized a couple of things.

1. When I get nervous or unsure of something I do dumb shit. That picture up above showing the cap and the plugs was shooosed to show the location of the rotor. In my mind at the time, the tech/battery plugs were the rotor. What an idiot. Looking at it now I don’t know what I was thinking.

2. Got the timing set up at bout 4-6 degrees. The thing that throws me off is tdc is not on the timing mark. It’s about 15 degrees before. Either the timing chain is off a tooth or the balancer has let go some. Either way it’s good enough to run for a bit for now.

Fitech warrantied out a harness for the controller. Hopefully when that gets in I’ll be able to use my handheld and set up some programming and maybe drive around the block.
