Ordered a bunch of red locktite and a paint pen to mark bolts. I used to enjoy wrenching a lot more and now I just want to look at nuts and bolts to see if they have spun. This should cut down on a lot of prep time to keep the truck rolling around.

I also want to upgrade a few bolts to bigger ones so they move less as well.

I really like the idea of a paint pen to mark bolts. I’ve got a lot of prevailing torque (pinch style) lock nuts under mine and still found some came loose. I want to be able to see if it’s moved so I can retourque as needed but also keep a closer eye on any that do consistently back off.

Same here, they have been turned so many times they no longer have the locking feature.

Trying to do something everyday to the truck, today I moved it into the side yard so I could tear apart the rear diff, I peeled the cover in Moab and the bottom bolt on the 14b snapped off years ago.

I bought a lube locker gasket and going to try and repair the housing.

What is this? It does not look normal to me....

And I agree, those shavings look no beuno as well. Something is going out, you have to find what it is with the metal missing and the finish trashed...

It looks worse than metal flakes from the picture...looks like a ripped open hole, which could potentially be the a lube hole from the front, I thought that was further forward, but I don't remember what its supposed to look like, and it looks like a broken hole, not a cast one, but I haven't opened my 14 bolt in over a decade.

Maybe its an illusion...

Most of it was normal wear only found a few slivers. I think it’s the pinion bearing from when the yoke stretched the ears. I did check the preload and it was in spec. It was getting dark and I didn’t want to bring the jack out to pull the driveshaft and spin it around.

Pulled the driveshaft and spun the rear gear couldn’t see anything wrong with it or the pinion. I don’t feel like breaking apart the gov bomb to see how it looks…

Drilled out the broken bolt and will either tap the housing or helicoil
