Think I might have found our answer to the front hitch.

This came up on craiglist for 20 bucks, it's listed as a Warn front mount receiver hitch for 88 to 99 Chevy and GMC trucks

Anybody know how strong these are? Would I be able to install a winch and pull the truck out if need be?

The frames are a bit wider on those trucks so you would have to cut it down to fit yours. But its probably a good start!

Sounds like a plan, he only wants 20 bucks. :woot:

I'm having a hard time getting motivated today to do anything. Just been watching netflix and playing playstation.

Thanks for the help, looks to be just about where mine is ending up at now. to the edge of the bushing to the cab mount is 4 and a quarter.

Sense I had to reweld it the metal was extremely hard... I had to use carbide bits and free hand it. It doesn't look bad but not a perfect circle. I'm thinking about putting some spot putty on and trying to hide it. Does anyone know if it will work?

Seems my trans jack grew legs and ran away... I'll have to pick up another...

Baba, I went through the same mounting for the shackles as your thinking about.....here is my solution (with a lot of help) and it seems to work, ride, and flex great with the stock length springs (6" lift Superlift springs)

I took the measurement, and did the math... I moved mine forward about 2.5 inches vs your 1.5. I sure hope it turns out fine, or I'm going nucking futs. My leafs are much soften then the superlifts though. I did mount it as low as possible in the frame rail, I can't even stick my finger in between the body rail and bracket.

Also I get home around 5 instead of 6 so that means more truck time. :thumb:

edit

Going back with the discussion with miniwally and the trig, looks like it's spot on where we talked about. Tomorrow I should be able to get the leafs in and do a quick measurement.

Didn't take much effort at all really, a couple pulls and it was square again. Once it's all together and driving I want to put it on a frame machine and dial it in if needed.

fixed my frame almost same way in my 2wd build thread i got pics.

i think you should have ditched that 2wd crossmember for the thicker stiffer 4wd one.

mine was toast from prev wreck and i swaped mine to 4wd even tho its 2wd.

Thinking back you are correct, I should have. With the combination of the 2wd and the front reciever I hope it's stronger then a 4wd cross member alone. :thumb:

make your new side plated just like the bumper brackets fit around the outside but yours go inside . then juct down just right to all fit in frame snug it will be just right and beefy.

just a bit fun to get all bolts in with that and bumper tho. as i did almost same thing month or so ago installing plow frame on 88k5 blazer and thats how western snow plows made there uni-mount hitch for the truck side that goes on the frame. it was fun getting all bolts in place.

but you have 1 MAJOR advantage tho. no body panels on the front yet. :D

KTM and myself talked it over and we (he) came up with mounting it on the leaf spring hanger bolts using the 4 forward bolts on each side. My plan was to weld qtr inch steel for that.

It all really depends on the dimensions of the receiver, I was thinking about adding gussets on each side going from the main tube to the receiver portion. Is it needed? Probably not but I'm almost positive I have the steel already and we like beef. :pimp:

Does anybody know the dimension difference between the width of the frames?
