I stopped using nozzle dip... it has a tendency to contaminate the nozzle/tip imo when it loads up...

I just keep a small pen knife and a pair of small dykes on the welder... dykes for trimming the wire and just an occasional scrape with the knife tip keeps the tip clean...

one thing I'll suggest to you is to learn to use your other arm, knee, whatever as a steadying guide... and prerun "practice" the weld real quick before you start to make sure you have a good body/arm position to do the weld, AND YOU CAN KEEP IT STRAIGHT AND EVEN.....

I'm not an expert, but it would say turn the speed down a tad? Also, how far inset into the torch is the tip? Possibly not set in far enough? I'm also curious what your regulator is set to. Doesn't take a ton but maybe set too low? I'm also a fan on the anti spatter spray. At least then, it still spatters, but it knocks off super easy.

These are the welds I used to do at an old job. More for looks than anything but they still had to be strong. And this isn't tack tack, it's a continuous weld without letting off the trigger.

To get the better welds I slowed down the speed. I would say less then a 1/4 of a inch the nozzle is away from the tip. As far as the regulator I think its between 12 and 15?

Just wating on the payment to clear to the bank and I'm calling ORD.

Thanks guys, I'm going to be trying to weld some holes up this weekend. Once I get the hang of that and you guys are confident I can do it I want to tackle the frame before the ORD kit comes.
