1983 K5 trail truck/dd/ R.I.P. 03/14/18

The switch I got from b&m mounts on the carb were the old tv cable went, it then connects to the throttle linkage. I set it so when I get on the skinny pedal and the secondarys on the carb open it shifts down from third to second. The switch was like 45 bucks I think.

Yeah the camo was a good idea at the time :doah:

That sounds like a good setup. You wouldn't happen to know the part number for it would you? And how did you get 12 volts to it? I'm just trying to picture it in my mind. Don't think I've ever heard of that but it's a great idea. I've still got the thing that the TV cable and the throttle cable connect to. It's still on the carb, maybe I need what you have.

Okay so it's still just an electric switch but it operates off the throttle cable instead of off of the throttle pedal. That's a good idea for sure. I wasn't aware of anything like that when I swapped mine out. I just got the bracket and switch off the gas pedal from the donor truck.

I'll have to make a mental note of this for future reference. Thanks for posting that link. :thumb:

Sweet!! That turned out way better than I thought it would!! Orange looks good. I had to grind my crossmember down under the front shaft too. I wondered if it would eventually self-clearance, but I didn't want to risk messing anything up. Did you space your crossmember down any? The Blazer I got my TH400/NP208 out of had 1" steel spacers between the frame and the crossmember, so I used them and that help a lot. I wouldn't have even been able to hook up the front shaft without cutting a chunk out of the crossmember if I hadn't used them.

I did the spacers with the last transmission, I think that is what lead to my torque converter getting eaten up. This time I just ground the crossmember.

Sweet. Does that headlight setup work better than the older style? I'm sure the adjusters are better. Got to be.

In that second pic it looks like you have it parked under an overpass or something. What's up with that? Do you live under a bridge? Are you a troll? :haha:

Haha I live on the bottom story of a triplex type deal so that's the walk way to the top two storys. Truth be told I haven't driven it in the dark lol.

So my inlaws are in town from mass so we went down to the dunes/beach. I saw a nice stretch of sand so I went in:doah: turns out my hubs aren't locking and I sunk. Oh well lol. My beautiful wife even helped to try and get us out....and she is due with our boy in two days, that's my girl!

Haha with 8 psi I would definently throw a bread on the 16.5s. If I was going out all day I would have went to 18 our so but I was just playing.

Not to throw this totally off topic and i hear ya on the 16.5's! But it is incredible what a difference airing down is! First time i ever drove in the sand was with my burb down at sand lake. With the full 35psi I made it down to the beach ok but when i tried to get back off the beach it was hell. I was doing everything in the book to try to make it back up with itty bitty little hill. It was small enough you could see over the top of it and was very gradual. I tried everything. Low range, high range, running start, reverse, i just couldt make it! So i aired down cause i had heard its the thing to do. Aired down to about 20 psi and finally made it out with a good bit of struggle. After that i met up with the friends that i was supposed to meet down there. I told them about my adventure and they said, "air down more". I thought, Are you crazy? Im going to blow a bead for sure! After all of them telling me different psi's, i finally settled on 8psi. After that, i could climb just about any hill down there! I went back to my trouble spot and did it in 2wd without spinning a tire! I made it up both the first and second bowl without issue. I was blown away but never did blow a bead. I just couldnt believe that i could not climb the smallest hill around before, but now i could climb anything i wanted. It was quite the learning experience.

Those look like manual hubs in the pics, not the sorry auto hubs of the later years. Probably just need some new Warn Premiums. Also, I can't remember if you have a locker in the front, but if you don't, I think that all it takes is one bad hub to make your front wheel drive stop working.

At least your wife didn't go into labor while you were stuck. :eek1: The new baby would be a natural born off roader for sure. Wouldn't that be a great tale to tell their friends as they grow up? Maybe they could sing a song about it: "I was born in the back seat of a ... Chevy Blazer... Rolling down the beach in Oregoooon." "Lord I was born an off road maaaaaann." (or woman). :haha:

Hope the baby arrives safely. Whatever you do, don't take any shortcuts across the sand on the way to the hospital unless you fix your hubs first! :doah:
