1986 GMC 3+3 dually build.- cummins swap.. Round 2, 2024 update.

How about some Trac bar pics, I don't think I see those in the album. You had a lot of shifting side to side when turning? Cummins weight related?

Oh right! Sorry about that, I think I lost track of this with the whole photobucket failure. The track bar was put in because the truck was just flexing side to side when turning. Driving down the road it was wobbly. Taking the advice from other cummins swaps here I went and tossed in a trac bar, I will grab some pictures to post of it. It was a night and day difference in the way the truck drives though. Its much tighter and responsive.

So I have been thinking a lot, I want to lower this truck down a few inches. I am thinking of getting a 0 " lift shackle flip but not sure what I can get away with on the front. Right now its a standard 1 ton shackle flip in the rear and some older 6" super lift springs my friend wheeled for years and then with the weight of the cummins are a lower lift. How low have you guys gone with 37s?? This truck does not offroad, shes a road queen. I would just like it lower for ease of loading, drivability and looks. Custom springs in the front possibly?

How do you feel about fender trimming? I had a 4" with 37s on wider wheels than you and it was a very little bit. Not sure how much different ours would be but it would be close.
You could benefit from an ORD spring or go down to 35s with a 2.5 hd spring that's off the shelf.

This is a 4" that had 37s. Pretty damn flat springs.

Maybe try a 4" front spring and the thin axle offset plates and move the axle forward 1". That would help clear the fender a little better.

That looks pretty nice and flat, and yeah, I was thinking some custom thin zero rates to move it forward. I would love to go to 35's just really not in the budget right now. I will do a bit of thinking but thats some good advice

Don't do it! This thing looks soooo good with the stance it has. I say leave it...but it's not my truck :(

Oh I know, my brother is also giving me shit, honestly I just would like it to ride smoother (tires shake a bit) Also its a pain to toss things in the bed. also money would be a a huge factor in the tires being so much money so in reality, it will stay like this for quite some time.

Since Photobucket has your thread jacked up, do you have any pics on your tcase mounting? It's a divorced one right? I see you are running 2.5" rear spacers between the duals, are those a 12.5" tire on a factory 6" or 7" wide dually wheel? I'd like to convert my 2wd dually to 4x4 something similar to yours someday. I have a divorced dodge NP205.

Yeah, those cheap military 37's are usually not very round. I say just keep rocking it and save up for a different set of 37's (or 36's) and maybe some new rims if you would like. That would probably help out the ride quality. That, and I can't remember what your shock setup is, but putting on some nicer bilstiens would probably do wonders as well.

As far as the "pain to toss things in the bed", sometimes you just have to sack up when you have this bad-a of a truck, hahaha

You know I need to go back and fix all of that! Sorry about that, I am running factory RV rims I believe trying to remember I think they are 7's. It is also a divorced set up, ill dig up the pictures for you, give me some time.

Yeah, there are a shit ton of weights on one front wheel. That's true, new shocks would help wonders, I have blisteins on my blazer.. they are nice for sure. It is hard to justify 3k in wheels when these work totally fine. I think the straw that broke my back almost was pushing a small block chevy up a wooden ramp into the bed the other night... didnt have my hoist! dohh.

What is your take on aftermarket AC set ups? The factory dodge compressor is really down in the frame rails and the stock box is 1/2" from the turbo.. I do not think it would work very well at all if I did set up. What do you guys recommend for aftermarket?

I bought vintage air for my crew cab just recently. I hope to have it installed asap.

It's supposed to do well even with the added air space.

Clears up all the space on the firewall and is designed to use a sanden style compressor. You tell em what you have and they provide the bulkhead for it

Mind sharing what that cost you? Looking forward to the install if you document it.
