1989 Crew Cab Tow Rig Build

My wife and I are moving to Boise, ID most likely at the end of November/early December...
WHAT??!!!

...and to be honest, CO is starting to piss me off. Too many people moving in and way, way to expensive to live here anymore in my opinion.
Not that I disagree with this sentiment. Been thinking a lot about moving out of state, but it's hard when you have a family business.

I grew up here, left for 6 years in the Navy (incidentally I live in Idaho Falls for 6mon during training), and I've been back in the state for 17yrs now. It has changed so much just in the last 10 years. I don't feel like I live in the same state anymore.

Guess we'd better get that Kelly Flats trip in here real soon...

Holy Crap! I'll just have to swing by and help you fix it. I will be moving to somewhere between Idaho Falls and Rexburg on Thanksgiving weekend.

Yeah, I thought you might be surprised by it, haha. We've been thinking it for the last couple years that we wanted to move out of here, and it seems like you've at least seen the same things going on in this state that I have (that I don't really agree with). I was born and raised here in CO and like you, only left for a few years for college and stuff like that, and this state has changed A LOT, and not for the better IMO.

We should probably have one last CO trip run soon!!

I went to college in Rexburg (my little sister is there right now) and lived in Rigby (directly half way between ID Falls and Rexburg) during that time...so I'm sure I will know exactly where you will be living. I'm planning on going to St. Anthony sand dunes outside of Rexburg at least once a year to ride my dirt bike out there...so we should meet up for sure!!

Yeah I'm trying to find a house near Rigby to rent and it's near impossible, probably end up closer to Idaho Falls for now. I have a Banshee that needs a rebuild and I will definitely be going to St Anthony with the kids.

November 5th or 6th?

Possibly...let me get back to you!

Oh ya, we will be in contact then. I have a 2008 CRF 450r motocross bike (looking to get a new one soon, but this one hauls a$$ with a high compression piston and a full yosh exhaust, so it will do for now)!!

Yes, they tested both my harness and my computer multiple times and were on the phone with me over and over again and they couldn't find anything...everything was working and functioning perfectly on both harness and computer from their end...so it's being sent back to me right now.

It's getting frustrating to say the least, but I won't have time to get it running before we move. My wife and I are moving to Boise, ID most likely at the end of November/early December...so it will have to be finished after we move up there. My wife got a job offer up there that we couldn't refuse, I have a few interviews for new positions up there this week too. We have wanted to move back there for a while now. We needed to get a bigger house now that we have 3 kids anyways, but everything in CO (at least in and around the Denver area) is so freaking expensive it made us think we should look outside the state...so ID here we come!!

Hmmm, I would have bet money something was pinned wrong. Anxious to hear what you ever find out. This is not that hard of a swap, odd you are having such a bad time. Sometangwong for sure.

Yep, that is the Northern part of Colorado for you. I wouldn’t live anywhere North of Pueblo County to save my arse. You can thank all of the Californian’s and Texan's pouring into the Denver area like sand through a funnel driving up home and land cost. Fortunately, anywhere South of Colorado Springs is still one of the most affordable place in the US. If you can’t make it in Pueblo County, you can’t make it anywhere. We have a full on custom home just shy of 5,000 sq. ft., 1,000 sq. ft. shop and 1 acre of land that we built 12 years ago for 300K. Today it is probably worth 380 to 420K…. in Denver area it would be a 600 to 700K house. Very nice homes with large parcels can be had for an easy 150K on up. Bad thing is there isn’t much down here for jobs unless you are in the medical industry or travel and work for a company out of state like I do.

Good luck with the move

Keep me posted if you guys go out the first weekend in November. I am sure my pile can be ready...

Got a little bit of misc things done on this thing to get ready for the move to ID. I got all the TBI wiring pulled out of the truck, which was a good feeling to get some of that crap pulled out. I separated the wires I will need for my other dash gauges like the temp gauge and the oil pressure gauge. I wasn't able to get those hooked up, but I at least have it all set aside and know what I'm going to do for that...so that's nice.

I also finally ran the wires for and hooked up my transfer pump. I hooked up my toggle switch and little gas gauge to the pump/sending unit, and fished all the wires so that I can mount both the gauge and the toggle switch in the ash tray. Here are pics below showing them in place:

And with it closed, nobody even knows its there :D

So I'm just going to cut a little piece of metal out to bolt the gauge and switch to and also bolt to the ash tray portion

Other than that, it should be ready to tow out to ID and I hopefully have somethings in play to get this thing running once I get out there

One little stupid update before I take this thing out to Idaho, I finally got my headliner fixed. Was going to try and do it myself, but found a local interior guy who wanted to give it a shot...he did a really good job. He fixed the damaged areas of the headliner and then stiffened up some of the common spots that were trying to fold, and then recovered it with a newer style headliner material in a blue. Spent a little more than I wanted to on the headliner, but once I got it up in there, it does make a huge difference on the whole feel of the interior now...very happy with how it turned out

Here is a before picture on the headliner/trim pieces when I bought it:

And an after picture now after new headliner/repaint on the trim, ext.:

It looks much, much better now. I think I've said it before, I normally don't do stuff like this on my trucks, but I really want this truck to be nicer inside and out

Great write up! I'm one of those damn Californians looking to pollute a State like Idaho myself! Maybe some day we can get our crew cabs together :) Great job and looking forward to seeing it's completion!

Thanks! If you do come to ID, hit me up!

Well, we made it to Idaho...lost some trailer tires on the way out which isn't too surprising sense this thing was probably maxing out the trailer, but either way we are here and everything made it just fine. I already met with Team 208 Motorsports yesterday and we did some diagnosing. Problem was it was butt freaking cold so after a while I think we have an idea as to why this thing isn't starting. Josh and I decided in a few weeks when it should be a bit warmer, and he is picking up a nice tool to help out...we should know a bit more.

Either way, it's been a long time since I've seen this thing out of the garage...this was right before loading it on the trailer in CO...looks freaking good! :D
