1989 Crew Cab Tow Rig Build

Interesting on the tailgate how the lights protected the clear coat.

According to my understanding, this truck spent it's whole life in Washington state. Obviously sun rays are not a huge thing there, just the rain. So I think after 25+ years of rain there, that's what started eating at the clear coat...which would make sense why the tailgate lights were protecting the clear coat right below them....kinda weird.

My plan is once I get the motor running, I'm going to put exhaust on it and get it registered. Then probably next spring repaint it all blue with a new clear coat.

I remember when this truck came up for sale and trying to come up with a plan to go cross country and retrieve a nonrunning truck. When I see the pics of how nice a shape it is in, it makes me wish I would have pulled the trigger. I like what you are doing with it too. Glad to see it stayed on CK5 all the same. When it fires up, it will all be worth it. Keep up the good work.

Thanks man! I haven't even owned it a year yet, and I didn't even take possession of until beginning of March this year....so it really has come a long ways in a short amount of time. I'm really happy with it so far. It's getting close, real close.

Speaking of firing up, any updates on that?

No, last 3 weekends were putting the lift on (as many know, when working by yourself, it always takes longer to do everything). So now that the lift is 99.9% done (just need to install new brake lines), it's back to the motor. Tomorrow after work we are going Elk scouting, so this weekend is out. But I ordered up a Optima Red Top battery, so I'm going to throw that in, and redo just a couple wires we spliced before with heavier gage wire to make sure I'm not loosing as much on the cranking amps. If that still doesn't do the trick, I might try to bypass the factory TBI ignition control module as this could very well be a culprit to the cranking amp loss too. Either way....it's very very close. It's cranking, it has fuel, and we tested all the coil packs that the wiring is correct and power is going to the correct places, just the cranking amps drop too low to allow the computer to send the fire signal to the coils.....so there is only so many more things it can be.

We will figure it out soon though

Nothing new on this right now...just wanted to show a before and after of the grill after I painted it...just to show the true difference :cool1:

After:

I freaking love it, haha.

My Optima Red Top battery shows up tomorrow. I'm going to be working on this thing on Saturday....let's have some prayers my way that I can finally get this thing to fire up....:D

Are you doing BB16?

No, not this year. It just didn't work out timing wise this year, and vacation time got used up at the beginning of this year, plus I took some days off for hunting season this year (cause I have a pretty good elk tag, so trying to make it count on this one).

I'll probably go next year though, and for sure 2018 (as that is supposed to be the good one for the anniversary of the blazer, according to what I've heard)

Who told you that?

When does elk season start?

You might have to include me in that pic. :D

You know it!!

You told me that :D

My elk/deer seasons aren't until October, but it's the fact I have vacation days scheduled for the hunting season is why no BB for me this year. I was thinking about just coming over the weekend for BB, but it's kinda a long haul while towing just for a couple days...and added to the fact I'm trying to get this crew cab on the road which there is still some more $$ that needs to be spent on it for that to happen is why I've decided no BB this year

Surprisingly, I wasn't trying to bust your balls about Blazer Bash. I was actually thinking of making a wheeling trip later in September, but before October.

I won't be running the event after 2017 so I guess I'm really putting the pressure on my as-yet-to-be-named successor.....

I see what you are doing now, haha. You are still going to attend BB after 2017 though right?

I was just assuming the ball busting as that seems to be what we do now, haha. Actually, I would be down for a trip late September. I have spent so much time working on this crew cab this year, I need to get at least another time before hunting season. Just let me know. Maybe a trail up North by you? My elk tag doesn't start until October 15th (then pretty much that whole next week, plus every weekend after that in October is hunting), so anytime before that I'm good for

Depends. I may go in '18 to help out the new person. Part of the reason we are "retiring" is because it will be harder to get away with both boys getting into middle school and high school. My oldest is staying home now for football. The youngest will come but he bitches about not getting perfect attendance! LOL I guess my kids are nerds.

There are a couple of trails I would like to hit this year, Red Elephant Hill and Middle St Vrain+Coney Flats. I have also always wanted to run Twin Cone when the fall colors are in full effect. I haven't done anything since June and I'm really looking forward to getting out in the cool fall air.
