1989 Crew Cab Tow Rig Build

I lately have been using the BBC SAS'd burban more as a weekend vehicle to tow my boat to have fun with the family, or go to the drag strip, or go fishing, or whatever.
I tried the daily "beater" but it didn't stick. I like, no more like love, driving places. So it's all about the experience for me, and I've gotta drive something I enjoy. My commute is about 30 minutes each way.

I also like giving Steve heck. As a side benefit Keith - my second favorite person to harass - is chiming in I get to give him heck too.

Sorry for hecking up your thread Steve....

:rotfl:, it's all good Scott

I am offended ...... especially when I hop into my $250 Camry that I have put 20k miles on it that gets 27 mpg with the a/c blasting and the stereo on and not a care in the world to who my crash into me.......

That's what I like about my civic except I get 40mpg

I did the boring daily drivers. They for sure have their place. But I do like driving my lowered LS truck. It makes loud noises. But......It is covered in hail and starting to rust, so I don't care if it gets banged up. My crew cab is fun to drive, but parking it is a joke.

So you just used these motor mounts on your 8.1?

Yep. Because my crew cab originally had a small block TBI 350, It already had small block motor pedestals in there. And the 8.1 has bosses on the side to accept newer LS style mounts, or older BBC/SBC mounts (pretty cool really). If mine had a BBC in it originally, I wouldn't have been able to use DIY4x's because his are only meant to bolt to SBC pedestals on the frame...but I could have used ORD's BBC mounts.

Since your truck is already a SBC, just get those mounts. They will bolt to the pedestals and will bolt to the 8.1 just fine. Just remember, you either need to clearance the stock engine crossmember, or just replace it with ORD's big block engine crossmember

This is the time for me to do things right. Which means just a new ORD x-member. I don't want half-assed.

Used the crew cab to tow down to ITTC again this year. Didnt really take any pics, below is one I stole from someone else off FB. Didnt bring the camper this year cause we slept in my brothers tent trailer instead. As expected, truck ran flawless and towed great

The crew cab square body got some love today. I also removed the factory rear bumpstops because they weren’t doing a darn thing anymore and they were a little to close to the bags for my comfort. Installed the valves at the back on the lower bolts for the license plate. Filled them up and no leaks, so that was nice

That's pretty funny using the valves as license plate bolts.

I honestly thought that was a common thing. My dad and brother run that setup on their company trucks that have bags on them.

It is cool as crap though.
