1989 Diesel Jimmy. What do we have here hmmmm

Not that I have ever rebuild a CV'D driveshaft but can you just replace the u-joints in it.

Oh and I did not do the welding

The u joints are fine, the cv joint itself is toast. Once they go that far you can't really rebuild them

those welds are what mine used to look like...:haha::haha:

Due to not a very happy last couple of days I haven't got much done.

Couple of things went wrong overall. My old 700 (blown up one) has the thick flange and bolt holes for the nice lower cover. It still has the support rods that go forward to the frame.

I want to keep these but the new trans has a thinner casting down there. So since changing housings is not really in the cards right now. My plan is to drill the holes and make some small bars the backside to spread out the load.

Good idea? Bad idea? What thing ye? I think it will be fine and I actually plan to rebuild the other transmission but not for a while. I will be collecting parts to do so over the next year or so.

Other problem is the bell housing cover somehow broke. Just the very top bolt. Need to take it in to someone to get it welded. Sucks I so need a TIG machine.

Anyhoo since the trans was orange before and this truck is not orange I painted the trans.

No opinions on drilling the holes in the thinner flange of the replacement trans?

For the thicker TQ cover should be fine, somebody else just did that in the garage. You will have to do bolts and nuts though.

Thats what I'm doing to Eric....my T400 has the thinner flange for the cover.

So weirdly enough my TC cover actually broke one of the top tabs off. Very top on the passengers side.

Oddly enough as I put everything up there this was the only hole that was way off. Like an inch to the side so I would not have been able to use it anyway.

Clamped the TC cover on and drilled away.

Here are the results

Passengers side with the tab I broke off in to show you can't really drill a hole for it

In the process of taking things apart the bellhousing bolt that holds the torque rod (the one that goes to the t-case) was broken off. Looks like it will not be a huge deal to pull it out. Broken off above the surface of the engine block, so some vice grips on it will probably rotate it out

What a LAME day.

Took the drive shaft to my local guy this morning. Great guy, part of the CV was broke. He would have to order the part. I will be getting another 241 very soon with a SYE on it already. So I don't want to spend a bunch of money on the drive shaft but I need to be able to drive it. So he is going to take it apart and see if he can eliminate the CV for now but only use existing parts and just re-tube it.

Then as I was tightening down the bolts to the adapter (on the transmission end) guess what happened. No I haven't helicoiled them yet. Can't find the right size helicoil in this town to save my life. One will be here tomorrow for me.

So I started cleaning stuff, crossmember clean and new paint

Front driveshaft is drying off. Cleaned and painted the adapter. Started scraping oil off the bottom of the body so I can repair what seems to be every single seat mounting point.

Cleaned all the bolts it was kind of nice to get everything nice and clean. :D

I wish I was closer, I have a complete heli-coil set in the right size if it is still 3/8-16. Nice to see some progress, did you ever get the hubs installed?

Yep hubs went in the day after I got back, never really got to try them because the first trip we went on the trans blew up:doah::doah:

drying parts in the shower, I love it Eric!

You need some 2" DOM on some trussed and gussetted 2x4x3/16" framing.

You need to buy your wife a present, I would be dead if I tried that, dont you have a garage for that stuff :dunno:

The garage was cold!

I don't do if often but that is Baileys bathroom and it was only in there for one night (so far)

Going to have to take the driveshaft out of her tub to give her a bath tonight.

Did I mention Kristle was in SLC? She left this morning :D:D

LOL now the truth comes out!! i was wondering how you get away with that
