1989 K5 - Gradual Learning

First 4x4 - learning basic maintenance / upkeep and maybe some small mods.
Yes sir. I removed the connectors and took out all of the hex bolts from up top but can't get it budge open.

Looks like the TBI manual I have actually suggests removing the injector from up top with two flat head screwdrivers. Might give that a try

Yep TBI. Worst part is I no longer have spare injectors

If I remember right they don’t cost that much, if you google you should be able to find a local place to clean them.

Well I'll be damned, looks like it may actually be a bad injector.

I did this test and the side that wasn't spraying "failed":

Gonna run by the parts store now and try to pick one up.

Maaaaaaaaan, they were pricy at my local AutoZone. $50 for a reman. $80 was the cheapest new option.

I might try and get one from my local junkyard. They are $7 each.

Pay attention to what you get, there are different injectors. On the top of the injectors is a laser etched number. I believe the 350” sets end in “206”

Good tip, thanks Mark. I'll pull the one off my Blazer tonight and bring it with me tomorrow. There are a couple of squares up north at the U-Pull-N-Pay so I might get lucky.

Keep this in mind on boneyard injectors. They might be worse off than what you got. They don't end up in a pull and pay yard because they were maintained well. You could get lucky and find 1 out of a handful that works ok. I'm saying that as a longtime junkyard scrounge. But in this case, you might want to just pick up some rebuilt units and split the difference between the boneyard and new ones.

I'm a big proponent of junkyard parts, but when it comes to fuel systems, I wouldn't use them. I've pulled carbs off of junkyard cars back in the day but rarely installed them right to my car without first going through a full rebuild. You can't rebuild an injector, but the same concept is at work here. Don't bolt on somebody else's problem.

I hear that man. Being honest with myself I will probably be a fool and take the risk. For $7 I might get lucky. But I do hear you and if I run into issues I'll swallow my medicine and will immediately pick up the reman.

I also need a window for my K30, should probably keep an eye out for that while I'm there...

In my local yard about the only place you can find injectors is vans. Usually all the other TBI stuff is already stripped unless you get lucky and find it before anyone else. People frequently forget to look in vans for stuff like that.

That goes for everything that vans share with trucks

Successfully got a fuel injector out of an old Suburban.

Any of you all happen to know where I could pick up new gaskets for my fuel pressure regulator?

They look like this:

I looked around on the site and couldn't find an old thread... will keep digging.

I might just use RTV, let me know if that's a humongous mistake... lol
